News From Cherokee ISD

Our tracksters made a big showing at regionals with many of our athletes competing. In each event, there were 16 competitors from various schools around the state. First through 6th earns points for their school, and the top two finishers qualify for the state track meet. Our Lady Indians finished 8th out of 34 schools. Payton Hanley placed 6th in the 3200 meter run, 10th in the 1600 meter run, and 5th in the 800 meter run. Sydnie Bond placed 7th in the long jump, 5th in the triple jump, and 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles. She will advance to state in the hurdles. Chloe Berrio placed 9th in the discus. Brissa Baugh placed 2nd in the high jump and will advance to state. Our 4X100 relay team (Brissa Baugh, Sydnie Bond, Maycie Shanklin, and Lauren Roberson) placed 5th. Our 4X200 relay team with the same team members placed 3rd. The Indians placed 2nd overall. James Beck placed 13th in the 3200 meter run and 12th in the 1600 meter run. Matt Gass placed 13th in the 800 meter run and 13th in the 1600 meter run. Joel Valdez placed 4th in the 110 hurdles. Gunner Baugh placed 4th in the triple jump and 4th in the high jump. Joey Bond placed 1st in both the discus and the shot put. He will advance to state in both events. Our 4X200 relay team (Gunner Baugh, Caleob Houston, Rode Ligon, and Joey Bond) placed 2nd and will also advance to state. We are proud of these athletes and wish them well at the state track meet at the end of this week!

We have lots of important dates coming up due to end of the year activities. Please take note of these dates. We are wrapping up state testing this week. May 12th is the FFA Banquet. The state track meet will be May 14th. Pre-K and Kindergarten round up will be May 16th from 4-5 p.m. May 17th is the 3rd-5th grade field trip to Austin where they will see a play called "Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch." May 18th is the kindergarten-2nd grade field trip to Longhorn Caverns. May 19th is the senior field trip and Rotary Banquet as well as the k-6 field day. May 20th is the athletic banquet. Prom will be May 21st. The end is nigh! We hope everyone just keeps powering through and soaking up the last bits of this amazing school year.
