If you’ve been following Cherokee ISD, you’ve noticed we’ve been absent for a bit. The stars just didn’t align for us to put together an article for the last several weeks, and I apologize for that. However, we are back on track to wrap up the school year!

Last week, our tracks teams traveled to Blanket for the Area meet and knocked out the competition! Both our boys and our girls won area. This is the second year in a row for our girls. Congratulations to these hard working athletes.

The boys’ results are as follows: Joey Bond placed 2nd in the 400-meter dash, 1st in shot put, and 1st in discus, advancing to regionals in all three events. Matt Gass placed 2nd in the 800-meter run, 2nd in the 1600-meter run and 5th in the pole vault. He will advance in the running events. James Beck placed 4th in the 1600-meter run and 2nd in the 3200-meter run, advancing in both. Joel Valdez placed 2nd in the 110-meter hurdles and 2nd in the shot put, advancing in both events. Gunner Baugh placed 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles, 1st in the triple jump, and 1st in the high jump, advancing in all three events. Isaac Graves placed 4th in the 110 meter hurdles and will advance to regionals. Brady Johnson placed 7th in the discus. In the 4X200-meter relay, Joey Bond, Rode Ligon, Caelob Houston, and Gunner Baugh placed 1st as a team and will advance. In the 4x400-meter relay, Brady Johnson, Rode Ligon, Kase Bordner, and Matt Gass placed 5th.

The girls’ results are as follows: Lauren Roberson placed 3rd in the 100-meter dash and 4th in the 200-meter dash, advancing to regionals. Brissa Baugh placed 4th in the 100-meter dash and 2nd in the high jump. She will advance in both events. Sydnie Bond placed 1st in the 400-meter dash, 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles, 2nd in the long jump, and 2nd in the triple jump. She will advance in all four events. Payton Hanley placed 3rd in the 800-meter run, 2nd in the 1600-meter run, and 4th in the 3200-meter run. She will in advance in those events. Skyla Shannon placed 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles and will advance. Chloe Berrio placed 7th in the shot put and 4th in the discus. She will advance in discus. Maycie Shanklin placed 6th in the triple jump. In the 4x100-meter relay, Lauren Roberson, Maycie Shanklin, Sydnie Bond, and Brissa Baugh, placed 1st and will advance as a team. In the 4x200-meter relay, Skyla Shannon, Maycie Shanklin, Annie Rutledge, and Brissa Baugh placed 3rd and will advance as a team. We have lots of important dates coming up due to end of the year activities and state testing. Please take note of these dates. May 2nd is the Masonic Banquet for seniors. May 3rd is the US History EOC exam. May 4th is the Algebra I EOC exam. May 5th is the 8th grade science STAAR test. May 10th is 3-8 math STAAR. May 11th is 3-8 reading STAAR and Biology EOC. May 12th is the 5th grade science STAAR and the 8th grade social studies STAAR. May 12th is also the FFA Banquet. The state track meet will be May 14th. Pre-K and Kindergarten round up will be May 16th from 4-5 p.m. May 19th is the senior field trip and Rotary Banquet. May 20th is the athletic banquet. Prom will be May 21st.
