It was a good week for Cherokee athletics last week! Our junior high cross country team traveled to Goldthwaite and placed 7th as a team. Tilar Turman placed 18th. Lily Graves placed 32nd. Miracle Irvin placed 66th.

In football news, Coach Newman reports, "The Junior High Football team had a great night against Mullin. The team showed much improvement and won decisively. While the whole team did very well, Robert Bench, Tatum Shanklin, Cayden Houston, Case Koerner, and Ricky Jones all had a great game. Brady Palermo, a sixth grader, ran the ball well while in the game. We look forward to continuing to improve." Our varsity team had a good week as well. Coach White says, "Cherokee won the District opener 92-42 over Mullin. Mullin came in undefeated and favored to win. Joel Valdez played really well at spreadback with Kase Bordner and Caleob Houston both with big receptions." Cherokee will take on Richland Springs this week. Junior high will play in Richland Springs with Cherokee hosting the game Friday night. We will have a black out pep rally for the varsity team Thursday night at 8:15 p.m. in the old gym. Come on out and support our Indians.

Last week was also fire safety week, and we were lucky enough to have some members of the Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department visit our campus. They talked to students about fire safety, family escape plans, and even a little about the fire trucks. The students were excited to take a seat in the truck and listen to the sirens for a minute. Thank you to Keith Davis and John Hoenow for taking the time to come to our school.

Our book fair is in full swing in the library. Open House is next Tuesday, October 19th, from 5:30-7. We really encourage all families to join us Tuesday night. It has been a great school year so far, and the students want to show off all of their hard work.
