Cherokee ISD is back in full swing this week! We are excited to embark on a new year of learning, exploring, and growing. This year, we have taken the challenge of becoming a Leader In Me school, and some positive changes are already happening.

Our summer was full of fun with a basketball camp and football camp, both led by Coach White. We also had three students receive their Lonestar degree at the State FFA Convention in Fort Worth. They were Sydnie Bond, Kase Bordner, and Skyla Shannon. We are proud of our students!

We are welcoming a few new staff members this year. Ms. Rebecca Sharkey is our new secondary principal. She comes to us from Bandera. Mrs. Kim New will be teaching junior high math and high school floral design. Ms. Kallie Johanson is our new junior high science teacher. Mrs. Kaitlin Robertson will be teaching second grade. Mrs. Tracy Johnson will be teaching kindergarten. We are thrilled to add these new staff members to the Cherokee ISD family.

Football season will begin on August 13th with an at-home scrimmage. The first game will be in Medina on August 27th. We are all looking forward to seeing the Indians in action on the field.

We are still on a four-day school week this year with Fridays off. The school day begins at 7:50 and ends at 4:10. Take note of one exception on the school calendar. Because we will be out of school for Labor Day on September 6th, we will have school on Friday, September 10th.

Parents, guardians, and community members, we need each and every one of you to make this school year successful. Please look for ways to be involved. We are happy to be able to have visitors on campus this year so that we are able to make Cherokee ISD a welcoming and inviting place.

We will continue to practice hand washing/sanitizing and cleaning practices in hopes to keep illnesses at bay. We hope that you will support these things at home as well. It’s going to be the best year ever!
