Joey Bond placed 1st in discus and 2nd in the shot put.
It has been an exciting last couple of weeks for our track athletes. We had several students that competed at the regional meet: Skyla Shannon in the 100 hurdles, Maycie Shanklin in pole vault, James Beck in the mile and the 2-mile runs, Tristian Arkansas in the 110 hurdles, Gunner Baugh in the high jump, Joey Bond in the discus and shot put, Raelyn West in the 100-meter dash, Sydnie Bond in the 200-meter dash, 300 hurdles, and triple jump, Brissa Baugh in the high jump, and Abigail Medrano in the discus and shot put.
Our boys and girls sprint relay and the 800 meter relay teams all competed at regionals as well. Arkansas placed 1st in the hurdles. Gunner Baugh placed 6th in the high jump. Joey Bond placed 1st in discus and 2nd in the shot put. Sydnie Bond placed 1st in the 300-meter hurdles, 3rd in the 200-meter dash, and 4th in the triple jump. Brissa Baugh placed 3rd in the high jump. Abigail Medrano placed 2nd in both the shot put and the discus.
Our boys sprint relay team (Tristian Arkansas, Gunner Baugh, Erick Miller, and Joey Bond) placed 4th. Our 800-meter relay team (Tristian Arkansas, Gabe Morris, Erick Miller, and Joey Bond) placed 3rd. Our girls sprint relay team (Brissa Baugh, Sydnie Bond, Allie Berrio, and Raelyn West) placed 2nd. They placed 4th in the 800-meter relay.
At the state track meet, we were well represented with eight students advancing! Abigail Medrano placed 3rd in both the shot put and the discus. Joey Bond placed 2nd in the discus and 1st in the shot put. Tristian Arkansas placed 1st in the 110 hurdles. Sydnie Bond placed 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles. Raelyn placed 8th in the 100-meter dash. The girls sprint relay team placed 7th. We are so proud of these athletes!
The school year is wrapping up, and we are very busy here at Cherokee ISD. Please take note of upcoming important events. We are STAAR testing this week. May 20th is the Rotary Banquet. May 21st is the Athletic Picnic on the football field. May 27th will be our academic award ceremonies. Elementary will be at 9:00 a.m. Junior high will be at 10:00 a.m., and high school will be at 11:00 a.m. The 27th will also be prom. Graduation will be held at the football field on May 28th at 8:00 p.m.
