Leadership, Service, Excellence: Inside San Saba High School’s NHS

The National Honor Society (NHS) chapter at San Saba High School continues to uphold its commitment to scholarship, leadership, character, and service. With a new year underway, the organization is introducing new initiatives, welcoming new leadership, and expanding its outreach both in school and in the community.

The NHS officers for the 2025–2026 school year are President Caitlin Mays, Vice President Jefferson Stencil, Secretary Libby Mays, Treasurer Zylie Hunt, and Public Relations Officer Sabrinia Dozier.

This fall, NHS will continue its tradition of the annual Turkey- of-the-Year Food Drive and campus-wide Pumpkin Painting Contest. Students can bring their pumpkins to the campus office from October 27–30. The annual food drive runs from November 3 to December 11. We encourage all students to participate in both the food drive and pumpkin painting!

Additionally, the NHS will recognize “Choose Kindness” winners every other month for the rest of the school year. The Choose Kindness committee selects students who demonstrate excellent character both in the classroom and in our community, promoting a positive culture at San Saba High School. Congratulations to our September winner, freshman Dakota Uli!

NHS is excited to announce the addition of two new committees this year: the Mentorship Committee, led by Caitlin Mays, and the Community Service Committee, led by Jefferson Stencil. The Mentorship Committee visits the elementary school on Fridays to read with younger students and serve as positive role models. This program aims to foster a fun, supportive learning environment that builds the next generation’s confidence in both academic and leadership skills. The Community Service Committee is designed to increase direct volunteer opportunities for members. For the past several weeks, this committee has been putting up football flags across town for the Rotary Club. In the future, the NHS plans to participate in a chapter-wide community service project.

NHS would like to extend a special thank you to our chapter sponsors, Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Arnoult, for making everything possible. Thank you also to our local community for your continued support of our National Honor Society!
