Lady Dillos’ Varsity Cross Country dominates again in Stephenville

The San Saba High School varsity cross country team continued its impressive 2020 season on Wednesday, October 7 when the Dillos and Lady Dillos traveled to take part in the annual Thrill of the Hill meet hosted by Stephenville High School.

San Saba’s varsity squad, with head coach Rachael Eubank at the helm of a Lady Dillos’ squad with Class 2A state championship aspirations again this season, was entered in the fourth meet of the day and competed against the likes of Blum High School, Italy High School, Lipan High School, Poolville High School, Ranger High School, Santo High School, Tolar High School, and Valley Mills.

The Lady Dillos were up first and looked superb in the team section of their meet, coming out on top with 30 points in front of Blum’s 45, Poolville’s 59, and Santo’s 84 points.

San Saba standout senior tandem Brighton Adams and Courtnee Cash were the first two runners to cross the line in the girls’ 3,200-meter run comfortably ahead with times of 13:00.34 and 13:18.36, respectively.

Junior Nojemi Martinez and freshman Jenna Lambert also recorded top-10 as Martinez finished in fifth and Lambert in eighth with times of 14:04.85 and 14:37.78.

For Sana Saba, sophomore Olivia Lusty also had a solid run on at the Thrill of the Hill as she finished in 14th place with a mark of 15:38.34.

As for the boys, the Dillos’ varsity cross country squad finished in third place in the team portion with 85 points behind Poolville’s 28 points and Blum’s 31 points.

Dillos freshman runner Julius Salinas had a top-10 finish for San Saba in the boys’ 5,000-meter run and placed eighth with a mark of 19:41.83.

San Saba also had one runner crack the top-15 in a field of 30 runners as sophomore Everette Edison had a time of 20:59.24 to finish a solid run in 15th place.

After the Dillos’ and Lady Dillos’ varsity cross country squads take part in a meet hosted by Lipan High School on October 14, San Saba will be back on Monday, October 19 to host their district meet held at San Saba River Golf Course.
