The San Saba High School varsity softball team has really struggled this 2022 season, but the young Lady Dillos were able to show quite a bit of fight and put some quality runs on the board in district losses last week to rival Goldthwaite High School and Medina High School.
San Saba Lady Dillos 9, Goldthwaite Lady Eagles 23
Although the Lady Dillos gave up a lot of runs early and often, the offense still managed to score a season-high nine runs in a lopsided 23-9 loss at home to the rival Goldthwaite Lady Eagles.
Trailing 10-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Dillos were able to get on the board on an RBI double by senior Landri Glover. After another San Saba double by sophomore Macy Sebastain, the Lady Dillos got a clutch threerun home run from freshman Mikayla Lusty with one out to cut the Lady Eagles’ lead down to just 10-4.
Unfortunately for the Lad Dillos, this was as close as San Saba would get as Goldthwaite would score another eight runs in the top of the third inning to put the game completely out of reach at that point.
However, San Saba was able to get some more offensive production in the blowout loss with run support as junior Virginia Diaz drove in two runs, freshman Olivia Sebastain knocked in one run, and senior Natalie Smith also had an RBI.
San Saba Lady Dillos 5, Medina Lady Bobcats 18
Despite the 18-5 loss on the road to Medina, the Lady Dillos were able to get on the board first this time in the first inning. With nobody out, Glover singled into the outfield and drove in Olivia Sebastain. It was then Macy Sebastain who had a productive at-bat for an RBI groundout that scored Diaz to make it 2-0.
With the Lady Dillos then surrendering the lead to the Lady Bobcats, San Saba faced a 6-2 deficit in the third inning but was able to get a run across as Glover would score a run on an error to make it 6-3 in favor of Medina.
This was as close as the Lady Dillos would get as the Lady Bobcats would take advantage of walks issued by San Saba pitching and critical defensive errors with five Medina runs in the bottom of the third inning and seven more runs in the fourth inning.
Smith was able to drive in one run in the game, while freshman Audrina Trujillo added a base hit for the Lady Dillos in the lopsided defeat.
After San Saba hosts Center Point High School on Tuesday night, the Lady Dillos will continue District 28-2A play at 6:30 p.m. on April 1 when they travel to Johnson City High School.
