A stellar San Saba High School girls varsity basketball 2020-21 season came to a close on Tuesday, March 2, when the Lady Dillos were edged 28-25 by Snook High School in the 2A Regional Finals hosted by Johnson High School in Buda.
In a game that was dominated by elite defense by both the Lady Dillos and the Lady Jays, it was San Saba who climbed itself out of an early 7-0 deficit midway through the quarter to take an 11-7 run. Although a very low scoring first half, the Lady Dillos would remain on top heading into halftime of a back-and-forth contest leading 20-19 over the Lady Jays.
Unfortunately for San Saba, who led 25-23 after the third quarter, great team defense by the Lady Dillos was not enough as they did not score a single point in the fourth quarter. Neither team scored for the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter until a Snook player drained a three-pointer with just under one minute left in regulation.
San Saba senior standout forward Courtnee Cash led the Lady Dillos in scoring with eight points in the heartbreaking loss, while junior forward Landri Glover and senior guard Brighton Adams added five and four points on the night, respectively.
Later in the week, the Lady Dillos announced that several of their players were selected to the District 29-2A All-District team for the 2020-21 season: Cash (All-District Most Valuable Player), Adams (Defensive Most Valuable Player), Glover (First-Team), Braycie Vickery (First-Team), Madison Shahan (Second-Team), Lexy Amthor (Second-Team), Jaedah Lambert (Honorable Mention), Nojemi Martinez (Honorable Mention), and Karlee Reed (Honorable Mention).
The Lady Dillos finished with a superb 26-2 overall record during the 2020-21 season and picked up wins during the 2A playoffs over Sabinal High School, Freer High School, rival Harper High School, and Normangee High School.
