The Cherokee Junior High boys basketball program reclaimed their title of District Champions for the first time in five years. Not impressive in size or stature, their success can be summed up in a few words— well-coached and coachable. They fought hard in both games but came out the victor (28-26) against Brookesmith in the Championship game.
The Indians went into the locker room at halftime trailing on the scoreboard, but with Coach Zack White’s exceptional coaching skills and the boys' indomitable attitudes, they were able to come out victorious.
Down by two in the final 35 seconds, Cayden Houston sunk a 3 with an and 1 to win the game. Case Koerner lead the team in points and assists, while Weston Woolsey was the first player to put points on the board. Tatum Shanklin and Robert Bench proved their worth with their tenacity and drive.
The future is bright for the Cherokee boys basketball program under Coach White’s direction and the unity of the players.
