The San Saba High School varsity powerlifting team competed in its second meet of the season and again had standout performers on Thursday, January 21, at the annual 2021 Burnet Invitational hosted by Burnet High School.

For the boys’ meet, San Saba was again well represented as Landin Short was awarded the Boys’ Best Lifter for the heavyweight division for the second straight week.

Short, who competes in the 220-pound class, dominated his way to a first-place finish with a whopping 1,500 total pounds lifted: 560 on the squat, 370 on the bench press, and a whopping 600 pounds on the deadlift.

Compared to the previous week at the Dublin Invitational, Short improved his squat by 10 pounds and deadlift by 20 pounds, respectively.

The Dillos also had multiple boys lifters earn medals in other weight classes: Justin Hernandez in first place in the 114-pound class, Wesley Lackey in first place in the 148-pound class, Gilberto Baez placed first and Zuri Herrera in second place with both competing in the 165-pound class, and Cristian Ramirez in first place in the 275-pound class.

As for the girls, the Lady Dillos had two girls perform at a high level and take home medals: San Saba 97-pound class entry Makinzey Saldivar and 164-pound class entry Kynedi Isham each placed first against girls from 4A schools like host Burnet, Fredericksburg High School, and Lampasas High School.
