It is hard to believe, but just two weeks of school remain in the 2020-2021 school year. The COVID stranglehold is easing its grip on Texas, especially in rural Richland Springs. We are all hoping to get back to ‘normal’ times. Parents are invited to all the end of school events, and masks are optional.

The San Saba Soil and Water Conservation District of Texas presented awards to students at Richland Springs High School and Junior High on May 11, 2021, for both 2020 and 2021. Awards were never presented last year because of Covid restrictions. The awards were presented by Carol Gibson of the San Saba Soil and Water Conservation District and by Johnie Reeves and Pat Pool, members of the SWCD board.

The 2020 Soil and Water Conservation Essay contest topic was “Where would we BEE without Pollinators?” while the 2021 conservation topic was “Healthy Forests = Healthy Communities.”

At the high school level, Brynlii Chandler won 1st place in District and 1st place at the Area competition in 2020 and competed at the state level with her essay. She received a wooden plaque, a ribbon and $100.00; Piper Moats won 2nd place in District and received a ribbon and $50.00; Gracie Ashworth won 3rd place and received a ribbon and $40.00.

In 2021, Nancy Valdez placed 1st in District and 3rd at Area in the high school level and received $150.00, a ribbon, and a plaque. Savannah Perry won 2nd in District and 2nd at Area and won $100.00, a ribbon, and a plaque. Cohen Tharp placed 3rd in District and won $50.00 and a ribbon. The high school students are taught by Mrs. Patsy Hall.

At the junior high level, Maggie Bryant placed first in District and received $75.00; Landry Brown placed 2nd.and received $50.00; and Flora Appleton placed 3rd and received $40.00. All three students received ribbons. The junior high students are taught by Mrs. Sarah Locker.

Thanks to the teachers and the San Saba Soil &Water District for helping these students become stewards of our natural resources.

We again graduate another fine group of seniors. The senior class of 2021 will make their mark on the world. Some will enter the military, some will go to work, some will go to trade school, and some will go to college. We hope you will find fulfillment and happiness in the life after high school.

The entire staff at Richland Springs ISD thanks parents for sharing your children with us. We hope you enjoy the summer as much as we do!

If you see a teacher in public, tell them how much you appreciate their efforts. We have a great community, students, volunteers, teachers and staff.

Community involvement is the key to our success!
