The news office reached out to Cherokee ISD Principal Jennifer Bordner for more information on their campus being evacuated on January 29th.
Early in the school day on January 29th, the Cherokee ISD campus was briefly evacuated as a precautionary measure due to a propane-related issue.
Students and staff were safely relocated to the Cherokee Baptist Church (3/10 of a mile away) while the situation was assessed and addressed.
Local officials and appropriate personnel responded promptly.
According to the Sheriff's Office, officers assisted with traffic control and ensured the kids were secure in a safe location.
Once the issue was resolved, school personnel received the all clear to return to campus, and the school posted the following information on their Facebook page at 10:36 a.m.: We have received the all clear and are returning to campus at this time. School will continue as normal. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Principal Bordner reported that safety protocols were followed throughout the process. She also noted the following: We appreciate the cooperation of families and the community and commend our staff, emergency responders, DPS, and San Saba County Law Enforcement for their quick and effective response. Classes resumed as normal following the return to campus.
Student and staff safety remains our top priority.
