It’s been a busy few weeks for our students at Cherokee ISD. Cherokee High School students attended the TSTC Brownwood Welding Competition and College Tour on March 25, 2025.
Competing were Kolton Bench and Max Williams. Kolton Bench's excellent welding skills placed him 9th out of 36 very competitive contestants. Also attending the event were Cayden Houston and Carlos Preciado. Both Kolton and Cayden won generous door prizes.
In track news, our junior high athletes wrapped up their season while many of our high school students are still competing. At the district track meet, Cherokee Junior High placed 3rd overall with the boys coming in 5th and the girls in 2nd.
2400 meter run: Isabella Rocha - 6th.
800 meter run: Flora Esquivel - 6th, Mason Rogers - 5th.
100 meter hurdles: Aveigh Galbreath - 1st, Emily Penney - 3rd, Morgan Palermo - 4th.
100 meter dash: Emily Penney - 2nd, Jax Williams - 6th.
400 meter dash: Aveigh Galbreath - 1st, Chris Oakman - 3rd, Parker Hanley - 6th.
300 meter hurdles: Aveigh Galbreath - 1st, Morgan Palermo - 3rd, Jax Williams - 2nd, Kyson Shanklin - 3rd.
200 meter dash: Morgan Palermo - 2nd.
Mile: Holdin Boswell placed 5th.
Mile relay: the girls team - 5th (Ella Owen, Mandi Fry, Flora Esquivel, and Maegan Kuykendall).
Caden White placed 6th in shot put and 4th in discus.
Triple jump: Jax Williams 5th, Chris Oakman - 6th.
Pole vault: Mason Rogers 2nd, Kyson Shanklin - 4th, Rein Hooten - 5th.
Discus: Marley Huron - 6th. Long Jump: Morgan Palermo - 1st.
Triple jump: Emily Penney 1st, Aveigh Galbreath - 2nd.
High jump: Aveigh Galbreath - 1st, Morgan Palermo - 3rd, Emily Penney - 4th.
Pole vault: Mandi Fry - 1st.

100 meter dash: Jeremiah Wakefield - 1st, Cayden Houston - 3rd.

400 meter dash: Jack Kugle-Moore - 4th.
800 meter run: Weston Woolsey - 4th, Robert Sawyer - 5th.
110 meter hurdles: Joel Valdez - 1st.
300 meter hurdles: Joel Valdez - 3rd.
Cherokee placed 2nd in the 4X100 meter relay, 5th in the 4X200 meter relay, and 3rd in the 4X400 meter relay.
Cayden Houston placed 1st in high jump, and in the long jump.
Pole vault: Preston Hanley 3rd, Robert Sawyer - 6th.
Shot put: Uriah Valdez - 5th. For the girls: 100 meter dash: Lauren Roberson - 2nd.
200 meter dash: Taylor Randolph - 1st 800 meter run: Payton Hanley - 5th.
Mile: Preslee Duggan - 3rd. 100 meter hurdles: Lily Graves - 4th.
300 meter hurdles: Tilar Turman - 3rd.
Cherokee placed 2nd in the 4x200 meter relay and in the 4x400 meter relay.
Pole vault: Taylor Randolph 3rd, Payton Hanley - 5th, Preslee Duggan - 6th.
Discus: Annie Rutledge placed 1st, Hannah Sims - 5th.
High school area track meet results are as follows:
Cayden Houston placed 1st in long jump and 2nd in high jump, and is advancing to regionals in both. Weston Woolsey placed 5th in the 800 meter run. In the pole vault, Preston Hanley placed 3rd and will advance, while Taylor Randolph placed 5th. Annie Rutledge placed 5th in discus. Lily Graves placed 8th in the 100 meter hurdles. Joel Valdez placed 5th in the 300 meter hurdles and 2nd in the 110 hurdles. He will advance in the 110. Tilar Turman placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles and will advance.
100 meter dash: Lauren Roberson - 3rd, Jeremiah Wakefield - 1st, Cayden Houston - 4th, all advancing.
Mile: Preslee Duggan placed 6th.
200 meter dash: Taylor Randolph - 2nd, Jeremiah Wakefield - 1st, both advancing.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the boys placed 3rd and will advance (Weston Woolsey, Cayden Houston, Joel Valdez, and Jeremiah Wakefield).
In the 4x200 meter relay, the girls placed 3rd and will advance (Tilar Turman, Payton Hanley, Taylor Randolph, Lauren Roberson).
In the 4x400 meter relay, the girls placed 4th and will advance (Tilar Turman, Taylor Randolph, Lauren Roberson, and Payton Hanley).
In golf news, our Indians placed 2nd overall at district. Jeremiah Wakefield placed 2nd individually. Congratulations to these athletes and good luck at Regionals!
