In a heart-pounding Friday night showdown, the San Saba Armadillos hit the road and came away with a hard-fought 17-14 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs. The win improves San Saba’s record to 3-2 as they head into their bye week and prepare for district play.

The game was full of momentum shifts and standout performances, but it was the Armadillos’ defense that ultimately sealed the win with a dramatic goal-line stand in the final minutes.

San Saba struck first in the opening quarter, thanks to a heads-up defensive play. Linebacker Jose Vega knocked the ball loose from a Hamilton runner, and Luke Tharp scooped it up and sprinted 58 yards to the end zone for the first score of the game. Kicker Brandon Gonzales added the extra point to give the Dillos a 7-0 lead.

Hamilton answered early in the second quarter with a 63-yard touchdown pass, but failed to convert the extra point, cutting the lead to 7-6. A late fumble by San Saba gave the Bulldogs another shot before halftime, but the Armadillo defense held strong, sending both teams into the locker room with San Saba still on top.

The second half kicked off with more excitement, as Gonzales nailed a 22-yard field goal midway through the third quarter, pushing the Armadillo lead to 10-6.

In the fourth, the San Saba defense once again delivered. A Bulldog fumble—caused by Clayton Meador and Alex Aguirre— was recovered by Jayden Aguirre, setting up another scoring opportunity. Just three plays later, Luke Tharp electrified the crowd with a 42-yard touchdown run. Gonzales' extra point extended the lead to 17-6.

Hamilton refused to go quietly, answering with an explosive 85-yard touchdown reception and successful 2-point conversion to close the gap to 17-14.

The Bulldogs threatened again late in the game after intercepting a pass and driving all the way to the San Saba 5-yard line. But with the game on the line, the Armadillo defense came up huge, holding firm and denying Hamilton the end zone as time expired.

Offensive standouts for the Armadillos included:

• Luke Tharp: 15 carries for 104 yards and 1 rushing TD, plus a fumble return for a touchdown
