74 Years Ago September 23, 1948 Mrs. Tommy Joe Yates was honoree at a party in the home of Mrs. J. Mitch Johnson, with Pauline and Shannon Gregg as co-hostesses. A gift was presented to the honoree by the hostesses.

Charley Startz this week received a 100-pound watermelon from Carnegie, Okla. as a gift from his nephew, George Brewster, who raised several of comparable size.

Mrs. Dock Wyers has moved her home from San Saba to Richland Springs onto a lot she had purchased several weeks before.

The San Saba Armadillos showed championship form as they scored a one-sided 51-0 victory over the outclassed but determined Rochelle eleven in San Saba's second non-district grid game of the season. The Armadillos scored twice in each quarter, with Bill McDoniel, Dick Felts, Eddie Edwards, Paul Basaldu, Graydon Cavness and Edgar Thornton doing the scoring.

The Brooks-Crim Tractor Shop was opened with quarters in the rear of the Gage Plumbing & Heating Co. building. Members of the firm are J. D. Brooks and Leonard Crim. The firm will repair tractors, trucks and autos.

The San Saba All-Stars beat Cherokee 14-6 in a benefit game played at the Memorial Softball Field here. The game was sponsored by the Cherokee P.T.A. Clarence Lehrer pitched for Cherokee, with the team's ace pitcher, Tommy Baker, doing service in the outfield as an act of courtesy to the opposition team who could not secure the services of a regular pitcher. Carl Taylor, manager, pitched for the All-Stars.

A new organization the San Saba schools, the San Saba High School Choral Club, elected their officers for this year. Joe Hartley was elected president of a group, while Anne Holladay will serve as secretary-treasurer-reporter. The choral club under the direction of Edwin Shepard Jr. has been divided into a four part chorus. The leaders for each section were chosen by the director and include: first soprano, Catherine Ann Campbell; second soprano, Carolyn Kirkpatrick; alto, Margery Lancaster; baritone, Elvis Joe Ballew; and bass, Dick Felts.

54 Years Ago September 19, 1968 Salvador Frassa and his wife, the former Gertie Smithwick, of Reno, Nev., and her sister, Mrs. Neva Pruitt of Dallas visited several days with relatives and friends and attended the Smithwick family reunion held during the weekend in Mill Pond Park.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Crump of San Saba have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Barbara Elaine, to Franklin M. Rivers Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. F. M. Rivers of Houston.

Members of the senior class of San Saba High School met to elect permanent officers. Those elected include Thomas Ringo, president; Dick Little, vicepresident; Patsy Tripp, secretary and Mitchell Riggs, treasurer.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolfo Flores are the parents of Delia, born Sept. 10, weighing six pounds and three ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin D. Williams are the parents of Andrew Bryan, born Sept. 10, weighing seven pounds and 12 ounces.

Richland Springs Coyotes took an easy, 38-6, victory over the San Saba B Armadillos here on rain-soaked Rogan Field. This was the opening game for each of the teams. San Saba made the lone touchdown in the last half when Keith Sterner caught a pass from Tom Epperson. The Coyote second unit played after the first half which ended with a score of 30-0.

Marvin Weatherby and Kenny Hinyard from San Saba Boy Scouts, Troop 55, received Eagle awards. The high honors were presented by John Pound, Scout Executive of Comanche Trail Council, before a large crowd at the Scout Hut. Marvin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Weatherby and Kenny is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hinyard. The Methodist Men's Bible Class is the sponsor of the Scouts with T. A. Davenport serving as institutional representative. Mike Ivy is Scoutmaster.
