Lady Dillos win at Mason
Led by sophomores Cinzlea Stanton, Olivia Sebastain and Aaliyah Patino, the San Saba girls rallied from a 35-24 deficit late in the 3rd quarter to knock off Mason last Friday night, 53-51 in two overtimes.
Patino hit a 22-footer at the third quarter buzzer to trim the lead to 8, and then later nailed a 25-footer with just seconds remaining in the 2nd overtime to seal the victory for the Lady Dillos. She finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Stanton had a career-best game for San Saba, with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocked shots, as did Olivia Sebastain, as she finished with 16 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.
Other key Lady Dillo contributors were, Macy Sebastain - 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals; Caroline McHam – 5 rebounds, 3 steals and a charge; and Chassidy Gonzales – 2 points, 3 steals, and some stalwart defense on Mason’s senior standout, Avery Brooks. Senior Olivia Lusty also sank a pair of clutch free throws at the end of the first overtime. The Lady Dillos are now 20-11 overall and 6-3 in district. Mason fell to 7-3 in league play.
Last Tuesday night, the Lady Dillos lost at home to a hotshooting Harper squad 52-25. San Saba trailed early 12-3, and after a better 2nd quarter were down 20-12 at halftime. However, the more experienced visiting Lady Longhorns got rolling again in the 2nd half and pulled away for the win. Harper is now 6-4 in district. Olivia Sebastain and Aaliyah led San Saba in scoring with 6 points apiece.
Due to projected weather forecasts, the Lady Dillos’Tuesday home game versus Junction was likely to be rescheduled for Wednesday evening at a time to be determined. On Friday, the San Saba girls head to Goldthwaite to face the district-leading (8-1) Lady Eagles. The Lady Dillos conclude league play with a home game against 5th place Johnson City (5-5), on Tuesday, February 7.
