The Bend News

Hello from Bend, I have some exciting news from our Bend Community Center President, Debbie Hicks! Debbie would like to share the following message: “ It’s time for the first meeting of the new year. Please join us this coming Saturday, January 21, 2023! Our meal will be chili and soups. There will also be a guest speaker, Dorothy Persons, member of Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky. She will help explain the importance of proper outside lighting and keeping our night skies as dark as possible. This presentation will also be livestreamed on Facebook for those who cannot attend.”

I, for one, cannot tell you how cool this is! Debbie has worked so hard, and with the help from a few others, she has remained persistent in working toward making Colorado Bend State Park an official Night Sky Park! What an exciting day that will be when it becomes complete!

Speaking of parks, Colorado Bend State Park is gearing up for fishin’ season. While the boat ramp is still not quite in the water…it’s getting close! Lots of calls are coming in asking about what the White Bass run will look like, and while I wish I could tell the future, I know one thing…either it’ll be good…or it won’t, but that better not stop y’all from tryin’! :) How’s that for mind readin’? Pretty good, huh?! In all seriousness, I got a glimmer of hope this evening as I saw some happy fisherman with a nice stringer full of whites, and they were pleased to report that there were a lot more out there!!! That is super exciting!

Sulphur Springs Fishing Camp is also gearing up for the season, as well as Barefoot Fishing Camp. Each park has different things to offer, and that’s one thing that I love so much about this area. Where else can you find three awesome parks like this other than Bend, Texas! Barefoot has made some big changes, and they have opened their new Hiking Trail system! Gennifer and Michael Brister have jumped in feet first and are taking quite a load off of Charlene and Jackie! I can imagine that they are happy to have a break!

In other Bend News, please continue to keep Raymond and Lewvon Hicks in your prayers. Raymond made his way to the hospital again with an infection that will hopefully clear up quickly.

Charlene Reavis is back in Lampasas Rehab after a Scott and White Hospital stay and a broken arm.

Bad Bob Fullerton has a bad respiratory infection, and we’re hoping it’s not making its way to something worse like pneumonia. I want to make a BIG Shout Out to his Solaris Hospice nurse, Tabitha. She is beyond amazing.

Pete Henniger is getting ready to start his 2nd infusion ( January 25th) of the new treatment that we’ve waited on for the last year. Please keep praying to kill the cancer!

Anthony Henniger and Laura Beth Hicks are officially on their 100-day countdown to tying the knot!

Anddddd I’ve managed to misplace my birthday lists and will likely be making calls this week to write all of those down again.

Yours Truly, Brandie from the Bend 325-628-3545 countrybrandie@ gmail. com
