San Saba High School Art students are participating in an art contest hosted by the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. The art contest is for students, ages five to 18, who live in Texas. The artwork has to be original and must depict artwork that represents Texas or western culture. The Grand Prize winner will receive up to $20,000 in scholarship money. Winners will be announced Saturday, January 7, 2023.
San Saba art students entered seven individual artworks and twelve students entered their artwork into the classroom contest. The students who entered individually are Sheridan Haynes, Jennifer Barcenas, Andrea Rodriguez, Gracen Shahan, Leslie Aguirre, Demitris Vasquez and Judy Mendoza. The students who entered into the classroom contest are Kelyn Olalde, Emma Argote, Levi Glover, Judy Mendoza, Layke Haynes, Janet Gibson, Eric Olalde, Valerie Macias, Esperanza Baez, Preston Downum, Destiny Davila.
In November, the San Saba Art class went to an art show hosted by the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Students were able to interact with artists whose artwork reflects the spirit of the West. The students were able to see the artwork created by these artists and talk to many artists about their techniques, how they come up with their ideas, and about their art in general. Some students even got a chance to paint with the artists during the show.
After the art show, the art teacher, Mrs. Wright, took the students to the Kimbell Art Museum and the Amor Carter Art museum. Students got to see many different types of art works and see different techniques. The trip to Fort Worth was very beneficial and educational and helped the students get ideas when creating their own art.
