74 Years Ago December 2, 1948

BEND–High wind and cold weather prevails with no moisture. The weatherman, it seems, has forsaken these parts and as a result stock feeding which will continue through the winter months and no one knows how much longer.

Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Cobern, who live on the C. C. Pool ranch where Mr. Cobern has been employed for several years, observed their 40th wedding anniversary at home with their two sons, Elbert Cobern of Brady and L. P. Cobern of San Saba.

The City National Bank building is having its face lifted this by the application of a coat of varnish over the woodwork at its entrance.

One of the nicest displays in holiday goods, is being arranged at Laird's Corner Drugstore.

Mrs. Nobia Musgrave and Mrs. Pat Kennedy, her sister, were here shopping recently.

Sonny Gage made a lucky shot Thanksgiving Day and bagged a 5-point buck. Hunting with him were Pudge Gage and L. R. Taylor.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto A. Harkey had as guests during the holidays their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Duncan and daughter, Nancy Duncan of San Angelo.

Mrs. E. E. Risien will celebrate her 95th birthday anniversary next Sunday.

Carpenters are busy remodeling the entrance of the east side of the courthouse.

54 Years Ago December 5, 1968

Soil-soaking rains, which fell over the county last week, measured more than three inches in some areas, according to various reports. Some snow was reported in the northwestern areas of the county, but none fell in the city of San Saba and no reports of snow have been received for the south and eastern areas.

Mr. and Mrs. Odean Ray have announced the arrival of a son born Dec. 2 in San Saba Memorial Hospital. He weighed six pounds, three ounces and has been named Barry Dean. The mother is the former Johnnie Flo Franklin. The couple have a daughter, Clara, age nine.

Army Pvt. Ronnie Bessent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Bessent, is now serving as a Hawk Missile Crewman in Okinawa. His wife, Waunice, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Daniels of Lometa.

The 1968 Golden Armadillos have a distinction all their own, having progressed further in the state playoffs than any team in the history of San Saba High School. This accomplishment was made possible by virtue of the Armadillos' 34-14 Regional win over the Forney Jackrabbits.

Chuck Little, student in Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Little.

Mrs. C. W. Cox and sons of Monahans visited during the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Roberds.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Harrison, Henry and Amy, spent Thanksgiving day in Austin visiting Mrs. J. W. Roper and Phil and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Roper and sons of Houston, and attended the A&M-Texas football game.

Meet your new neighbors – the Douglas S. Tomlinsons of South Houston, owners of the Wallace Dairy Mart. They aren't exactly strangers here. He is a San Saba native, who left here at an early age and grew up in West Texas. Mrs. Tomlinson, the former Ella Mae Linzey, once lived in Lometa. They have lived on the Gulf Coast for 25 years.
