Army Private First Class Fidel Paradez, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Paradez, was assigned to the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment in Viet Nam. Pvt. Paradez, a cannoneer with Howitzer Battery of the regiment's 3rd Squadron, entered on active duty this year and was last stationed at Ft. Polk, La. He attended San Saba High School. His wife, Josephine, resided here in San Saba also.
Mrs. Jack Linn returned home from Morganza, La., where she spent a few days with her husband, who is operating a pecan house for R. B. Bagley & Sons there.
San Saba's A team boy cagers edged by Comanche, 54-53, but the Comanche girls took a 64.-27 victory over the San Saba girls here.
Gary Gatliff, San Saba FFA member, exhibited the champion capon and Merle Taylor, Richland Springs FFA member, had the champion group of broilers of the 12th annual San Saba County 4-H and FFA Poultry Show.
Angel Gamboa and Paul Townsend, seniors of San Saba High School, are conducting separate science projects, according to Mr. George Dennis. Angel is constructing a skeleton of a rattlesnake which is five feet, six inches long. Paul is performing experiments of the effect of cortisone acetate on skeleton development in chicken embryos.
Bryan Kent Ellis has his orders to report in San Francisco for embarkation and duty in Viet Nam. His wife and children will stay with her parents, the Lowell Lewises, during his stay in Viet Nam.
Many San Sabans saw the brilliant display of stars falling like rain upon the earth early morning, Nov. 17. According to astronomers, not since 1866 has the world been treated to such a brilliant shower from the heavens. Starting at about midnight, the 'shooting stars' from the constellation Leo, resembled a giant roman candle in a fireworks display. They continue to fall until daylight when they were no more visible to the naked eye.

The home of Buddy and Aileen Roberts located at 105 East Pecan, a yellow two story structure of Prairie Style Architecture introduced by Frank Lloyd Wright, will be featured in San Saba Garden Club's Sesquicentennial Tour of Homes. Built by Ward Holmans in 1904, the 10 room stucco home is located on 2 1/2 acres. Buddy and Aileen have been redecorating the home for the past three years with many plans for future projects. Mrs. Roberts specialized in cabinetry and the kitchen area reflects his unique talent. Several special points of interest should be noted by first time visitors to the home including a prayer nook off the living room, interior columns, a large pantry and wood floors.
All District band member chosen from the San Saba Armadillo High School Band are Brad McCoy and Mike Bishop. McCoy, son of Ken and Judy McCoy, is a sophomore and was selected 2nd chair trumpet. Bishop, freshman, is the son of Dwayne and Mikie Bishop and was chosen 6th chair french horn.
Workers began construction on the long awaited elevator for the San Saba County Courthouse. Winning bid was submitted by Lansford Co., Inc. with a bid of $69,894. The project is in compliance with the law that requires county courthouses to become barrier free for the handicapped. The project also includes remodeling the restrooms to make them more accessible to the handicapped.
Dilloettes of San Saba High School competed in the Cisco Jr. College drill team competition, and the group received a I in their pompom routine. Those participating included Stephanie Sloan, Sherry Murray, Kerry Ragland, Charla Beam, Kimberly Ellis, Chantay Ferrell, Jennifer Ray, Maria Robertson, Cindy Cantu, Tracy Ragland, Christie Crim, Marcie Westerfeld, and Cristy Thornton.
The San Saba Armadillo varsity boys basketball defeated Santa Anna in their season opener by a score of 58-30. Lead scorer was Scott Sears with 18 points. Mark Oliver followed with 14, Peter Sanchez with 6, Quint Hibler and Trey Kidd each with 5, Michael Cox, 4 and Billy Ray Walker, Steven Sloan, and David Bourke with 2 each.
