Join Rotary Thursday, November 3, to hear Tom Maynard

The Rotary Club of San Saba will be hosting Mr. Tom Maynard, San Saba County’s representative on the State Board of Education, Thursday, November 3rd, at Pecan House Grill. A buffet lunch is available for $20.00 cash including tip, but an RSVP is necessary by 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 28th. The State Board of Education (SBOE) sets policies and standards for Texas public schools. The primary responsibilities of the SBOE include setting curriculum standards, reviewing and adopting instructional materials, and establishing graduation requirements as well as overseeing the Texas Permanent School Fund.

Tom Maynard has been involved in education for over 30 years. He taught agricultural science for 13 years and served for 17 years as the Executive Director of the Texas FFA, the longest serving chief executive in the organization’s history. He grew up at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, northwest of Amarillo, eventually graduating and receiving a teaching certification from Texas Tech University. He served as a school board trustee for six years and is committed to revitalizing the workforce development component of public education.

On the SBOE, Maynard has served as chairman of the Committee on Instruction and currently is the chairman of the Committee on School Finance/ Permanent School Fund. Additionally, he has served on the Ad Hoc Committee on the Long-Range Plan for Public Education and the Long-Range Plan Steering Committee. He recently gained San Saba County into SBOE District 10 as part of the redistricting process.
