San Saba Elementary School:
Eight adults laboriously pruned, repaired equipment, weeded, and gathered brush and clippings at the Pollinators’ Garden at San Saba Elementary School Monday, the 10th, a school holiday. The garden was established in November of 2015 by San Saba Garden Club, Keep San Saba Beautiful Commission, and San Saba Bird and Nature Club at the east end of the new school facility. Many students have enjoyed learning about nature and read leisurely in the cozy outdoor space. The area is flourishing with native trees, shrubs, and grasses loved by bees, butterflies, moths, lizards, and birds. Also in the nature landscape are two raised beds that hold seasonal vegetables or flowers planted by students who are led by their teachers.
San Saba Rehabilitation Center:
Four SSGC members enthusiastically weeded and planted fall plants and bulbs in the San Saba Rehabilitation Center’s Keyhole Garden last Monday, a Garden Club workday. The garden was built in the spring of 2017, outside the then Shady Shore’s dining facility, in hopes that the residents would enjoy the beauty of the garden while eating their meals and engaging in other activities daily. Efforts are made to keep plants thriving there, whether in spring, summer, fall, or winter. Garden Club members donate the offerings of plants to keep the garden going.
Mill Pond Park’s Historic Garden Club Building:
Five SSGC ladies willingly took on some painting at the historical San Saba Garden Club building in Mill Pond Park last Monday, a designated civic beautification day for SS Garden Club and a lovely weather day! Shutters and some trim were primed and will be completed at a later date. Plants were pruned, flowerbeds cleaned, and cart flowers watered. The cart and surroundings had earlier been decorated for the fall season.
