HCM offers free Sports Injury Clinics

Every Saturday morning during football season

Hill Country Memorial is again offering a free sports injury clinic on Saturday mornings during football season, open to all area students.

“These sports injury clinics are a great service to provide to our student-athletes of all communities,” said Mindy Eckert, DPT, OCS, Therapy Services Manager, HCM. “We are happy to be able to help them continue on their sports journey.”

The clinics are held every Saturday morning from August 27 through November 5, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Outpatient Entrance of the main hospital, 1020 S. State Hwy. 16, Fredericksburg. They are open to all public and private Middle, Junior, and Senior High School student-athletes from any community.

Patients are received on a first-come, first-served basis, and a parent or legal guardian must attend. After registering, they receive a free evaluation by a Physical Therapist, then by an Orthopedic Physician if needed. A fee will be charged for imag-ing or soft goods. Families will be referred if additional imaging or medical attention is required.

The clinic will also have a supply of Durable Medical Equipment (DME), such as braces, splints, and wraps, available for purchase.

According to Eckert, the most common injuries are sprains, strains, and bruises.

“In the past we have found fractures and joint issues,” she said. “Of course, we emphasize if a student experiences any severe injury during a game they should not wait for the clinic and instead seek immediate medical attention.”

The free Sports Injury Clinics are sponsored by Hill Country Memorial and Hill Country Orthopedics: Clint R. Beicker, MD; Richard Edeen, MD; Paul Phillips, III, MD; P. Charles Romanick, MD. Physical Therapy evaluations are provided by HCM and local Physical Therapists.
