Now that the month of July is slowly coming to an end and the dog days of August are approaching, the time for the annual “Meet the Dillos” hosted by the San Saba All Sports Booster Club (SSASBC) will be here soon. Mark your calendars now for August 5th as this year’s event will be held in the air-conditioned confines of the San Saba Civic Center. Joe Pete Smith and his crew will be frying up fish for the event for $10 a plate with all the trimmings. The purpose of Meet the Dillos has two parts, the first being a way to kick start the 2022-2023 athletic year and introduce the coaches and athletes participating in fall sports. Introductions will include the cross country and football teams along with performances by the Dilloettes, SSHS cheerleaders and music provided by the Golden Armadillo Band. The second part of Meet the Dillos is the fundraiser for the SSASBC; this consists of both a live and silent auction. Silent auction items will be up for bid while the live auction items will be auctioned off by our local tongue rolling auctioneer, Mark Wise from Wise Meat Market. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be highlighting our live auction items. This week’s items are the VIP parking spot and a basketball signed by the state semifinalist Lady Dillo basketball team. Who couldn’t use both of these items?
