If you had visited the new Filling Station Restaurant last Thursday, you would have been delighted to listen to three teachers singing away, in harmony, to the song selections on the radio. Elizabeth Johnson, Kristie Perry, and yours truly had a blast. We spent more time laughing and singing than we did eating. The food was delicious, and the staff courteous and friendly. The decor is so Gulf and so fifties. I highly suggest you run by and visit this new addition to the San Saba dining scene.
While we are talking dining scenes, the Coyote One Stop is under new management and has a new name. Mrs. Bailey is a renowned author of multiple cookbooks. Their lunch menu reflects her skills, and should delight your taste buds. The Feedlot has some good cooks as well. In this time of rising gas prices, why not save some money and support your local vendors! Don’t forget Skelton’s Hardware also carries basic groceries, and their new snack machines are handy for a quick snack or drink.
I hope we have some vendors this week for our Richland Springs market day. We have so many talented folks in the area. Perhaps they just haven’t put the market day in their calendar.
Chrissy Baker is training for the post office position in Richland. She is following in her daddy’s footsteps. Russ filled that position for quite some time. She will be a welcome addition to our business community.
I let my computer update to the Windows 11 because they kept harassing me. So, here I sit in the dark because I don’t know how to change my screen to a lighted screen. It is totally black. Usually, I let the light from the computer show me the keys, that way I get less bugs in the house. Fortunately, I have this cute little LED sewing light and I can put it right over the keys so I can type. I didn’t ask this computer to change my screen. Now I’m going to have to mess with this silly thing.
Like many people across this country, we are feeling the pinch at the pump and in the grocery store. I have a fuel-efficient car, but six gallons of gas cost me almost $30. I don’t even want to think about how expensive the groceries were. I remember the mess in the 1980’s, thanks to gas prices. I guess it’s time to do the planning thing again. I would travel only once a week, plan out my stops, make a circle route and shop from a list - no impulse buying. For those with needs, please remember the First Baptist has a food bank that is open to Richland community members, no church affiliation needed.
Esmeralda and Carol are working hard to get the school prepared for the new school year. Please pray for Mr. Womack and incoming staff.
Mr. Womack has a vision for the school district, and his desire is to see the school blossom. We wish him well in his plans. We wish the retiring teachers a peaceful and fruitful year as they transition from full time to home. Best of luck to Elizabeth Johnson and Rick Lasley as they transfer to new schools.
Our prayer list this week includes members from all churches, our economy, our government, and the unrest around the world. A new record has been broken for border crossings; our agents need our prayers. We need help for our country. We also need a good heavy rain. Pray for our police officers and most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Stay cool, and don’t let the wind blow you away.
