San Saba Basketball competes at Big Country FCA Festival

San Saba High School was represented well on Saturday, June 4th, as two Lady Dillos players, one Dillos player, and one cheerleader were selected for the 2022 Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Festival Girls Basketball Game hosted by Brownwood High School. Lady Dillos seniors, Landri Glover and Jaedah Lambert, were on the red South girls team, Dillos senior Reagan Mejia was on the red South boys team, and Lady Dillos senior Jaela Nelson got to cheer on both games as a cheerleader.

The South team for the girls trailed for a majority of the contest as they were down 12-8 at the end of the first quarter and 30-25 at halftime. They were down 41-38 heading into the fourth quarter and used a timely rally to win 49-46. Glover had two points while making both of her free-throw attempts, while Lambert was unfortunately inactive for the game due to a knee injury she suffered late in the 2021-22 season during which the Lady Dillos had a magical run that saw them make it all the way to the 2A state semifinals.

In addition to the Lady Dillos, San Saba had two fellow players from District 29-2A in the game from Mason High School as guard Tristin Keller scored four points for the South. She led her team in both rebounding with nine boards and assists with four as a great ball distributor, while Cowgirls forward Lauren Olson made 1-of-3 shots she took from the field and finished with two points of her own in the win.

The game’s Most Valuable Player was from the South team as Claire Graham of Jim Ned High School was the leading scorer with 15 points. Graham and Keller will be teammates this upcoming season on the Abilene Christian University women’s basketball squad.

As for the boys’ game, Mejia was also part of a winning team as the South won easily 89-73 against the North in Brownwood on Saturday. Mejia made 1-of-3 shots he took from the field and finished on the scorer’s card with two points.
