The Richland Springs Report

We start this week anxiously waiting for the promised rain to hit the ground. Too often lately, our little area has been bypassed, left waterless and despairing. Our trees are blooming, but many will suffer from the drought conditions. I don’t expect a good berry crop, and I doubt the grape crop will be plentiful. There was a prayer meeting at the courthouse for the much-needed rain. I pray that those prayers reached heaven, and the prevailing winds bring us a rich rain.

Our community is celebrating the advancement of our One Act Play under the leadership of Mrs. Sarah Locker. This is the first time our theatre group is headed to state. Mrs. Hall led our kids year after year in many successes, but the coveted trip to state never materialized. She is cheering our kids with a full heart. Few people knew that for the play to progress, several actors had to step away from their athletic successes because the play and track events were scheduled for the same time. Thankfully their sacrifice was rewarded.

The cars and Chinese benefit held Sunday after church went well. Russ and I opted to just get the food, which was delicious, but there was a line of cars waiting for their clean up. It was good to see the kids out there scrubbing away the dirt and grime caked on by weeks of wind.

I want to forewarn my fourth through sixth parents that we will have a science fair in late May. I will help students pick an appropriate project, but they must do this themselves. I hate to cause strife, but the research and organization skills are important for their future classes. It’s also part of the TEKS requirements for fifth grade.

Once the challenging work is over, everyone loves the day of presentation. Parents are welcome to attend. I will let you know the date next week.

They have recovered the body of the soldier who died trying to rescue two men from the Colorado River. He did what he was trained to do without stopping to determine if the people he was rescuing were worthy of his help. He was a soldier, a hero, and my prayers go out to his parents in their grief.

We have multiple families grieving for loved ones, I hear Phyllis Taylor is doing better, Susan Gossett, Michelle Green, Weldon Ransberger, Brother Barry is continuing to heal after his miracle heart attack. Dallas Larreau, Jason Moss my grandson, Gary Litton, and several others in the area need our prayers. We also need peace in our little community. Some folks like to cause strife, and that keeps a community from thriving. Please continue to support our local businesses. Times are tough; they need us, and we need them to stay open. Pray for Ukraine, our country, our elected officials, and the mess on the border. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week.
