It’s not Easter, but I think we can safely plant our spring crops.
My plumcots are blooming, and perhaps in a couple of months I will get to eat plumcots. Bobby and Chrissy are avid gardeners, and both garden plots are immaculate. This is the best way to garden. I sit back and watch, and they work to provide food for my table. It’s like Christmas all year long. I have the passion for work; I just don’t have the stamina.
I trust everyone is watching for fires. So many communities are being devastated due to this long drought. Please send up a prayer for rain.
Remember there is a total ban burn in effect for our region. We have dozens of men in the community collaborating with volunteer fire departments assisting other towns.
Students from Richland Springs attended the San Angelo Symphony last Friday. It was a first for many of our students. After the concert, we walked the river path and scrambled over playground equipment. The younger students did not accompany the third through fifth grades. They will go on a trip shortly.
One Act Play is advancing to regional competition. Parents wishing to attend need to contact Mrs. Starr or Mrs. Locker. The competition is Saturday in Stephenville. Break a leg, and bring home the win. This group of talented actors has two cheerleaders in the wings, Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Smith. Our Coyote drama program has had excellent leadership for decades.
Spring sports are in full swing. The tennis team under Coach Brown, and the track team under Coach Rogers, Chandler and Burkhart have successfully participated in several meets. The golf teams are experiencing remarkable success under Coach Ashworth and Coach Dennis.
Mr. Dennis is keeping our stock show kids busy as well. Mrs. Starr should be publishing the UIL Academic results next week. She knew in advance that our computer science students were going to place well. Based on the work I saw, she is right.
Coach Smith is recovering from his stroke. He was to retire this year. Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Tompkins, and yours truly will be retiring at the end of this year. I’m going to try this retirement thing, but it may not last. I love teaching and dislike sitting around. Mr. Womack has posted the positions available for the 2022-2023 school year.
The Richland Springs Trade Days is this Saturday. Jason Lewis has over 50 vendors signed up for the event. The Preservation Society will have the bank building open, and the variety store will have all articles in the building for sale. Stop by and see what you can put in a bag for $5.00. Thomas Lee has been an avid collector and I’m sure he will miss his little treasures. Speaking of treasures, Mondo and Lane Garcia of Garcia Outdoors took home the buckle from the Lometa Rattlesnake Hunt for the most rattlesnakes collected.
Our prayer list starts with fiveweek-old Tanner Lewis. He is in the hospital on a ventilator. The local fires and property losses need both prayers and resources. First Baptist is collecting donations for those affected by the fires. Phyllis Taylor, Susan Gossett, Leonard Hill, and Emma Becker need prayers for healing. Bob Brockman and Vera Ralston are both doing well after their hospital visits. Please pray for the Ukrainians, world peace, our country and the leaders that make decisions that affect our daily lives. Pray diligently for rain, but most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
