No trip this spring break for me; I have a lengthy list of honey-dos to complete. They are self-imposed. Since I have given up on losing many pounds of weight, I am determined to rid my closet of clothes that don’t fit. Like many other women, I have kept “favorite clothes” hoping I would fit back into them again. I surrender that idea, and the Goodwill folks and Dove Project are about to get four boxes of things. I wasn’t born in the Depression, but I was born into a poor post-war family. Nothing was thrown out, only kept for possible recycling. I am officially too old for recycling. Clean closets here I come.
The school kids are out for the week, although tennis and track are still active. One Act Play is also competing. Progress reports have gone out for our fifth sixweek reporting period. We are down to the wire, and the STAAR tests are looming on the horizon. I noticed the TEA had a poll out asking for teacher input. I didn’t respond because it is useless. The think tank folks have decided how they want to present questions to 10-year-old kids, and they know better than anyone else how those young brains work. I think most of them have forgotten their lifespan development classes from college. Until they start asking questions for all ranges of kids, our kids will continue to think they are failures. A year or more of remote learning has robbed our kids in many areas. Please don’t rob them with a test designed for above average learners.
The food bank at the First Baptist Church has been getting more visitors. Perhaps the next grocery shopping trip you make you can buy a few extra staples and donate them. They have had several wonderful donations, and Franky and Esmeralda Soto are headed for Costco to fill up the shelves. With the high price of gas, Skelton’s Hardware can save you money. Their grocery shelves are limited, but they have daily essentials that are looking better cost wise than a trip to San Saba or Brownwood. I encourage everyone to shop your local business establishments: Skelton’s Hardware, The Stagecoach, The Coyote One Stop, and the Feedlot. Don’t forget the Historical Society’s big sale on the 30th of March.
Barry Fikes posted a photo of Panzee at the rehab center. Her strength, determination and persistence has won the hearts of the staff. We are looking forward to having her home. Vera Ralston is also doing well after her hip surgery. Please continue to keep the Alan Taylor family in your prayers. Susan Gossett is still having health issues after her surgery. Our area is crying out for rain, so please include that in your prayers.
Please pray for our country, the war in Ukraine, our border crisis, fuel crisis and the excessive cost of goods that will harm our lower income families greatly. Pray for our police officers, border agents, and first responder personnel. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Enjoy your week.
