Alice in Wonder Land

I have made a list of things to do before I go to visit my granddaughter and family in Franklin, Tennessee, on Friday, February 4th. Writing this column for San Saba News is on the list for the February 10th edition.

Today is the traditional Groundhog Day, February 2nd. If the animal sees its shadow when it comes out of its hole at the end of hibernation and the weather is sunny, it is said to predict six weeks more of winter weather. Indeed, the groundhog saw its shadow, so be it. However, my radio host said he didn't know why anyone would believe an oversized rodent! :)

Speaking of the winter weather, there is a prediction of rain today, then turning to ice and snow with two-three inches of snow by Friday. I was planning on going to the calling hours for Tom Paisley on Friday afternoon, so I need to make other arrangements in contacting Tom's wife, Linda.

The Paisleys lived in Millersburg, Ohio, during the time Larry and I lived there also, and Tom was a State Trooper. Tom and Larry were members of the Jaycees, and we enjoyed the Paisley's friendship. I plan to take Linda the book, We The Widows, offer help, give support, and pray for her and their family.

The Millersburg area (Holmes County) has Amish communities. Most of the men employed at Hipp Lumber, where Larry was General Manager, are Amish.

The following "story" will bring a smile: An English man stopped his truck and offered an Amish man, who was hitchhiking, a ride. The Amish man saw the man was smoking a cigarette and told him that if God wanted him to smoke, He would have put a chimney on him. The man turned his car off the road and replied: "if God wanted you to ride, He would have put wheels on you, so get out of my car!"

Larry and I had a great relationship with our Amish friends. I have been in contact with them and plan to make a trip to Holmes County when the weather permits to visit them.

Ephesians 5:15-17: "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is (New King James version).
