Happy Herman's Hideaway

MOM! SILENCIO!

Howdy ho, my San Saba loves, and how in the world are you? Asking makes me think of the lyric… If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. Well, my gracious, how could you not know you are happy? Is it like not hiding your light under a bushel? I must admit, since I am a dachshund, human terminology does tend to confuse me. Now let’s not ask mom about my ability to listen or respond to words said to me because she will tell you a bunch of lies. Yep, she will say I understand perfectly but refuse to comply out of shear stubbornness. She will smile and say any dog who can tell the time of day without ever looking at a clock, communicate so well without ever speaking a word and manipulate others with such utter adeptness has skills humans could only dream of possessing. We shall ignore the woman with impunity.

We had such an amazing and wonderful weekend; it was stellar! My brothers, Tony and Shawn came to visit from the Houston area. Oh, my very goodness, it was so great to see them. I have to say, looking at those three is like looking at triplets born many years apart; they even share so many of the same mannerisms! I feel so loved, so included, and yes, so spoiled when they visit. Now don’t misunderstand. It isn’t that I don’t feel those things when it is just me and the parentals here at home, but hey - add two more to the mix, and it is small dog heaven here! There is only one downside to the whole thing, and it is the going back to the Houston area and saying goodbye; I hate it! I really wish we all lived closer to each other even if Tony did say his dog, Jake, hates other dogs and people.

This illness I am going through is proving to be a very difficult nut to crack. Dr. Hinton has been trying all sorts of different medication combinations, and I will improve and then decline, be able to walk well so she will decrease something and then I begin to stumble like a dog who got into the liquor cabinet! I suppose life can be just as they say…Rome was not built in a day and neither has been this Hermie.

I do wish mom would stop food shaming me. Steroids make hunger like a ravenous tiger inside you. The minute I finish a meal, I am thinking about the next one. Mom keeps mentioning my legs are the size of pencil erasers, and if I get too large, I will not be able to walk. Umm, duh mom, I do not need a mirror to see what I am; the entire world is above me! Perhaps mom is jealous because she has the opposite problem and has the capacity to eat the content a thimble can hold!

You are so dear and precious, my San Saba dears, to put up with a complaining, silly dachshund. I come to each week like a bratty child with my goofy life and you read without writing to tell me shut up and I so love you for it. I would likely explode for real if it were not for you guys. Thank for being!
