Happy Herman's Hideaway

So Much More Than a Tree and Presents

Merry, Merry, Ho, Ho, Ho, Sleigh Bells ring and all the usual sayings. Oh, do I sound like the Grinch? I am not going to steal Christmas; I live in San Saba, not Whoville. Christmas lives in the heart differently in each person, is special in its own way, and for the parentals and I, it means the people we love and care about. There is Joe, the pharmacist at Everett’s Pharmacy, and the people who work there who always go out of their way to be so kind, caring and accommodating every day of the year to us. It is Dr. Key, Adam, and Mandy at San Saba Animal Hospital, the loving, kind, gentle souls who watch over me when I am in trouble and need their expertise to help me find my way back to Herman happiness. Often it is the people who work at Lowe’s grocery store, so personable, friendly and genuinely caring. It is Dr. Whiting who goes above and beyond to care. Yes, all these people make San Saba full of Christmas every single day of the year. They may not be wrapped in brightly colored paper, but trust me - each one is truly a precious gift.

I already got some Christmas gifts, an elephant and a giraffe, and before you go thinking you are going to call animal control, they are the small stuffed kind with squeakers. I must be suffering from old dachshund syndrome because I played with them, roughed them a few minutes and then left them in the middle of the hardwoods to talk amongst themselves. I heard the giraffe ask the elephant… “Hey, do you have a Band-Aid in your trunk? I think I have a hole in my head I didn’t have before!” The elephant replied… “No, you don’t, that is not your brains leaking out, he tore the tag that was attached to you off. Calm down!” I think I need to have a discussion with mom about buying me intelligent toys.

I was doing well after my vet visit with Dr. Key. Yep, I looked like I was about ready to run a dachshund marathon, but then this week I started going downhill fast. Poor dad is back to feeling as if he has lost his best friend, and mom is having to be the pillar of positivity to bolster hope in the house. It is mom’s belief if you go to a place of doom and gloom, then your heart resides in a dark, dank room. I will go back to Dr. Key and have my ears flushed again. Perhaps a bug crawled in and never crawled out. Hey, it could be Rowena placed a bug in my ear to spy on me; I wouldn’t put it past that squirrel!

My dearest and most treasured San Saba family, my wish for you this Christmas is your heart feels full of hope, love, and you by being alive generate sparkle and joy with the love you have inside. We love you so very much, and thank you for being.
