The Richland Springs Report

I had to bring out the long pajamas and long-sleeved shirts this week. I don’t have a particularly good internal regulator, so nighttime gets tricky. It’s not a problem for Russ. He sleeps tucked up in a blanket all year long. I love our daytime temperatures. Mind you, all temperatures in November beat the temperatures in my hometown of Montreal. I put my jacket on this evening to go out and watch the stars. This month is meteor month. Then on the 18th, we will have a lunar eclipse. That’s quite a birthday gift. Not only that, but the new restaurant will also open in time for my birthday. How’s that for a unique gift!

Our Coyotes football team is district champion for the 20th time.

That’s quite a history, and one that few teams can claim. Now comes the play-off stretch. We can only hope, pray and support them as they take this journey. There is a hunger for this 10th trophy, but there are mighty obstacles in the way. I’m confident that Coach Burkhart will do his best to prepare his team for each battle. Only time will tell if the planning and practice will have the desired outcome. Win or lose, we are proud of our boys and will support them all the way.

The school is inviting all veterans to a free lunch on the 11th.

Guests who accompany them will be charged $4.50 for a chicken meal. We are proud of our veterans and owe them a debt that can never be paid.

Please save the date and spend time with us. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. The cafeteria staff under the management of Shannon Sutherland, would also like to invite you to a family Thanksgiving feast. This meal is a hit every year and gets all of us off on the right foot for eating our way through the holidays. Mrs. Bea and Paula will indulge you with the best of meals.

Sunday was a busy day this week in Richland Springs. The Cemetery Association held a dedication ceremony for the updated Veteran’s Board and historical marker. Mayor Johnny Reeves spoke at the ceremony on behalf of our small town. We are proud of our little town. Sunday evening, Johnny Reeves led the group gathered for an old fashion sing along. We spent over an hour picking out and singing our favorite songs. Covid messed up many of our community gatherings. I’m glad we revived this one. Johnny was talking about all the “singings” that he attended around the county as a child. I remember when we first moved to Richland Springs; we attended song nights at Elm Grove.

It’s good to praise the Lord. I hope you have marked your calendars for the Hometown Christmas event on the 27th. All you crafty ladies and gents bring out your best stuff and make it available for our guests. With all the talent we have in this neighborhood, who cares if the ships are all stuck in California. We can do our shopping right here in town. Shop local is the theme.

Heather Lewis is undergoing a procedure that will clear up her heart issues and return her safely to her family. It’s been a wild journey. Vera Ralston has received the go-ahead for hip surgery. Once that is done, the doctors say she will be mobile and free from pain.

George and Donna Hill need our prayers as they work through pain issues. Fred Overstreet has been sidelined for a while. We pray he gets back to good health quickly. Danny Phillips and Danny Jr. have both been cleared of cancer. That is a double praise.

Please keep our country, President, Congress, and border patrol officers in your prayers. Our government seems to think we have bottomless pockets. We are a blessed country, but right now our economy cannot take too many giveaways or careless expenditures. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week everyone.
