Golden Armadillo Band Marching to State!

The San Saba Golden Armadillo Band qualified for the UIL Class 2A State Marching Band contest next week in San Antonio.

San Saba's band, directed by Chans and Misty Moellendorf, finished fourth in the Area D contest Saturday in Bastrop.

The band knew that they had to give two solid performances on Saturday for a chance to make it to the state contest. The preliminary round consisted of 20 bands, and San Saba had to be in the top 10 in order to perform in the finals later Saturday evening. San Saba finished 7th in prelims.

The band performed 7th in the finals. The energy that the band had in warm-up that night was incredible. Everyone was focused on doing their very best to complete the list of goals that had been set earlier this summer. The final goal was to make it to State. Their performance in finals attained this goal.

The top four bands advanced to State. The announcer announced the bands starting in 10th place and worked backwards. When the announcer announced the 5th place band, and San Saba had not been named yet, our kids erupted with joy because they knew that they made it. It was an amazing night!

Harper, Shiner, and Weimar will join San Saba at the Alamodome on November 9, in San Antonio. San Saba will perform in prelims at 11:00 a.m. Finalists will be announced at 12:45 p.m., and finals will begin later that evening at 7:45 p.m.
