The Richland Springs Cemetery Association cordially invites residents in and around the area to a Dedication Ceremony to be held Sunday, November 7th, at 2 p.m. in the pavilion. The event is in honor of the new historical marker and updated Veteran’s Board. The association members have worked diligently to improve our little cemetery. Should you require any further information, please call 325-452- 3255. Please come and share this historic moment.
Russ reluctantly celebrated his birthday on Saturday. He was really hoping everyone would forget, but wouldn’t you know, the children we birthed turned on him and called him to remind him of his advancing years. Both he and I regard each day as a gift from God. Some days are better gifts than others. We are blessed to have come this far and still be in good health. He didn’t escape from the singing at church, either. Brother Mack knew it was his birthday, so Russ had to listen to everyone singing happy birthday, Russ, from the congregation. I think I may be lucky enough to be gone the Sunday after my birthday.
Sunday, the 7th, is going to be a busy day. Aside from the dedication ceremony, First Baptist is also going to have a "Gospel music night" on that date. The singing will start at 6:00 p.m. I’m sure this will bring back fond memories of Wayne Powell and his love of gospel songs.
Kay will play the piano and may even get some assistance from others.
Johnny will lead the singing. Come and join us for a night of music and fellowship.
The Christian Church is planning to have their Christmas music night again this year. In spirit with us will be Mary Kate. Although she will not be at the piano, I know she will be smiling down from heaven, happy that this small-town tradition will not be lost. Paula Sue tells me she is wanting to stick with traditional Christmas music this year.
We certainly have a rich tradition of Christmas music from which to draw. As usual, we encourage local musicians and singers to come join the celebration.
I posted a message on Facebook this week after I watched the ice skating trials in Canada on Saturday. I do not understand the mentality of Australia and Canada at all. On one channel, I watched 70,000 screaming football fans encouraging their college athletes, not a mask in sight. On the other channel, I watched a pitiful number of spectators, spaced and distant from one another, all masked. Why? As for Australia, I am shocked. They have had an exceptionally low percentage of deaths, and yet, they are locked down paramilitary style. My impression of the Aussies was that as a nation, they were feisty and not too worried about life in general. To see this forced lockdown, in a wide-open outdoor country, just doesn’t suit their national persona. I understand the Canadians; they never have been rebellious. They are more passive and obedient than Americans. They don’t rock boats. Americans, on the other hand, laid down the rules in the Declaration of Independence and the winning of the Revolutionary War. They came for religious and personal freedom, and that national persona remains today. The science for Covid is confusing and opposing. Why can one country have thousands of unmasked people living regular lives while other countries, working under similar circumstances, are burdened with masks and indoor mandates, all in the name of safety. Life is certainly confusing. I know my Canadian family can’t believe I am living without a mask.
Our community was saddened to hear that Galen Robbins passed away this weekend. Our prayers and comfort go out to Maxine. She has been recovering herself and trying to help Galen through his medical issues. She is a trooper and amazing woman. The Luna family in San Saba have lost all their possessions and home in a fire last weekend.
They have been left with nothing. The Red Cross is assisting them for the moment, but there are posts online for clothing sizes, furniture, and monetary donations to keep them going until they can get back on their feet.
Kay and Gerald McKee need our prayers as he works his way through his battle with cancer. Danny Jr. was given great news, instead of facing chemo treatments, he has been given a free from cancer diagnosis. That is great news. Heather Lewis is still waiting for news from the heart doctor, Vera Ralston is waiting for surgery in Fredericksburg, and young Camilla Patina is still recovering from her horrendous accident.
Pam Starr asked for prayer for her cousin; unfortunately, his cancer has returned. We have several others with life threatening sickness. Chad Anderson, Bill Sanders, Jerry Stinson, and Judge Theodosis are fighting sickness. Arlene Stratton is down with sciatic nerve issues.
George and Donna Hill need our prayers as well. So many ill among us and needing our prayers and care. Please put your faith to work and answer a need around you.
Our country needs prayers. We need to work hard to put our country back on track. Please pray for our officers at home and on the borders. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
Have a great week.
