Round about now, my Canadian sisters will be coming out of Indian summer and getting ready for cooler weather. We, on the other hand, are experiencing warmer weather than in June, July, and August. Looking on the positive side, we have had a great summer. Flipping the coin, we are having a warmer than usual fall. If you are not from here, I understand your confusion. Typically, we have summer until October.
This summer was so much cooler than usual, that I am complaining instead of praising God for a great summer. Some of us are never satisfied. I will add that the weather people are predicting 99 or higher on Monday before the big cold front moves into our area.
I want to give a shout out to the ladies and gents who worked Friday to prepare the Fifth Quarter meal. It was held under the Tabernacle to give plenty of room for those who are worried about Covid. Perhaps the Covid fear was the reason for the low attendance. Typically, we have 70-100 or more. I would guestimate we had less than 30 Friday night. I would hate to see this Covid stuff rob us of one more tradition.
Friday night’s game against Nueces Canyon started off strong, and I was sure we would be up late. The new app had its grand opening. There were some sound issues, but I’m sure they will get that fixed. Kay and I watched the game; we just couldn’t hear very well. If you don’t have the app, go to the app store, and download Richland Springs Athletes. Mr. Womack is setting up the site with the experts.
He says eventually all school activities and teacher pages will be available for parents on the app.
We are fortunate that we are, and have been, in school without masks since last January. I pray that will continue. I’m not against masks and shots for sick people or those with severe health risks.
Apparently having the shot is not a guarantee. My main concern is the changing science and lack of science. It seems as if the CDC, WHO, and Dr. Fauci change stories and often don’t agree with one another. No wonder people are nervous about getting the vaccine. I believe it does help to keep your level of sickness down to a less catastrophic level. If you feel comfortable, please get the shot.
Speaking of masks, Russ and I watched some college football this weekend. He won’t watch NFL anymore. One stadium had 70,000 fans all waving white flags, and none wearing masks that I could see. I am going to watch the covid cases in their area to see if there is an uptick. Like most young people, they believe they are invincible. With age comes a little more caution, or is that doubt?
Brother Barry posted a message about learning to laugh at yourself. I think that is excellent advice. If we learn to laugh at the things we do, we won’t have time to fuss about some of the crazy things that are going on around us. We can leave our statues up and quit tearing things down because they might hurt our feelings. I have that concept down pat. I amuse myself every day with the silly things I do. It’s one of the reasons you will see me with a smile on my face.
Red Gibson is recovering from serious breathing issues and needs our prayers. There are multiple people in the area down with the new variant. Thankfully, those who had covid a few weeks ago are all on the mend. Al and Billie Behrens had a fright Friday. Billie fell and broke five ribs. She needs our prayers. Since he is her caregiver, so does he. Ricky Allen is looking for someone to help him with his wife Mickie on the weekends. The food bank is open at the First Baptist Church if you are needing food during this pandemic time. There are so many hurting people in and around our community.
