I’m not sure how we managed, but we were able to spring a surprise retirement party of Kay McKee. Her daughter, Amanda, and family kept her busy and then cooked up a good reason to return to church at 2 p.m. The party was not just for First Baptist Church. Members from the community and several from Shiloh came to wish this wonderful woman a blessed retirement. Although it was her party, she was one of the last people cleaning up the hall. That, folks… is Kay McKee.
Covid is rearing its ugly head again. The new variant is more contagious. That doesn’t mean it’s a pleasant experience. Russ was listening to a report from MIT. Apparently, the scientists decided to do their own research, and their findings made sense to me. I could identify with the results of their work because of an experience I had 50 years ago. In 1971, I went to visit the sister of a friend. This sister was soon to be released from a tuberculosis hospital. She was finally well and anxious to go home.
Fast forward 30 years, our school decided that we all needed to take a TB test. My results were positive. I was a little panicked thinking I had been carrying TB around all those years. I had to go get an x-ray to prove I was disease free. At the clinic, they told me that because I had been exposed, I would always have to get an x-ray because of antibodies in my system.
That same result is happening with the covid vaccines. The MIT scientists/engineers found that due to the antibodies in our system, we would get false positives because our bodies were continually building up new defenses against this horrible virus. Editor's note: Without a quoted professional and supportive resource for the aforementioned MIT research data, this written information does not represent the views or opinions of San Saba News & Star or its staff.
So, I will not get another shot. I will let my body do its wonderful thing. If you are at risk, please take all precautions. If you are an average healthy person, live your life fearlessly. I would get the shot if you are older, but the choice should be yours.
On a separate covid note, we can expect to have outbreaks with the influx of people flooding our borders. It will cause an outbreak all over this country. It will be a challenge that many states will have to face. It’s funny, I can’t get into Canada because of covid, but over a million illegals have entered the country this year. To put that into perspective for my sisters I told them that if they combined the totals of two major cities in Canada, they would have new cities full of needy people from countries south of our border. The number is hard to envision. This number of immigrants to Canada would be devastating. In the meantime, I can’t visit my family.
School is in, and our new Superintendent is making changes on the fly. He has clear goals, and we will make those goals if he has anything to say about it. Mrs. Wyatt has traded offices with our new school secretary, Kim. Mrs. Wyatt will use the extra room to meet with parents in a more comfortable room. We are finally getting a new maintenance man. Bobby Baker will start work Monday the 9th. We have been without a maintenance person for over a year. He will be busy getting our campus whipped into shape. This would be a suitable time to let Mondo Garcia know how much we appreciate the many times he has come to rescue us. We wish our new staff members a blessed and prosperous school year.
Our administration is keeping a close watch on the developing covid issue. They have partnered to make our school year as mask free as possible. We all hope, for the sake of our children, we can maintain our no-mask policy. Students are being blessed with free school supplies, and free breakfast and lunch for all on campus. Like many other schools, we need bus drivers. We are looking forward to an excellent year.
The prayer list is long this week. The families of Tiny Shannon and Henry Reeves need our prayers. We have multiple cancer patients needing prayers. Gerald McKee, Greg Lewis, Chad Anderson, Mario, and several others. Baby Camden Soto had a rough week and needed hospitalization. He is doing better this week. Susan Gossett is needing extra prayer as she is not recovering quickly from her recent surgery. Elaine Slaten (Crump) was taken to the hospital with a brain bleed. Vera Ralston didn’t get relief for her hip and leg pain. She needs our prayers. We have several in the community who have contacted covid. My prayer is for them to recover quickly, and for this virus to not spread and mess up our school year. Another police officer in Chicago has been murdered. This officer left a two-month-old baby who will never know her mother’s love. This killing must stop. Please pray for law and order to be restored in our country.
It’s about time for another round of rain to keep the grass green. This summer weather has been phenomenal. I have never sat through a summer without multiple 100-degree days. Praise God for this blessing.
Please be mindful of the children making their way to school. They don’t pay attention to things around them. Most of all, please pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
