Happy Herman's Hideaway

Stars, Stripes, Freedom, Independence, Home

Greetings, my San Saba loves; we are on to another month, into mid-summer already, the turning of another page of the calendar. Wow, why do I sound like a guy doing a documentary voice over? Did I accidentally take one of mom’s heart pills and become old? Let me shake off this maudlin mood before you guys are bored to pieces, swept up and not in a good way!

We hope your 4th was a happy celebration, and I do hope you realize I am speaking of the 4th of July, not your 4th child, puppy or divorce! The parentals and I thought about attending the festivities, but mom is not vaccinated, not well at all, so we decided it would be better to stay home and listen to everyone having fun from home. Mom and I could hear everyone having fun from our back porch. Yeah, I, mom and the mosquitoes had a little party with everyone through the miles. We had many neighbors who popped firecrackers all evening long, but I was much more intelligent…I popped snacks into my dachshund mouth! It was a truly great day to be free in this country.

I got a little upset with mom last week. Hey, it doesn’t happen often, but the world is far from perfect, and mom doesn’t live in space. Anyway, I was minding my business, which is everything in this house, when mom put the day’s mail on the side table. Well anyone putting paper down in our house, it automatically becomes top priority business for me. I went over to check for junk mail, as I am the official shredder, was about to make a grab when I hear what I call mom’s screeching owl voice saying…“Herman, NO!” A rather spirited discussion ensued, and I spent the rest of the day on the hardwoods looking towards the back door waiting for dad to come in from his office. Mom and I not speaking is like me refusing to eat chicken…a freak of nature. Even those of you who don’t have children were the children of your parents, and you know all about the relationship. Oh and in case you think I am making huge assumptions because I am a dog and a dachshund…I read an article that said dogs have a relationship with their human that is just like that of a child.

I love you, my dear San Saba friends. I hope you have an amazing start to this new month. Have a lovely week until next we speak, and be safe. Thank you for being.
