Cisco Writers Club 45 th Annual Summer Writing Contest is open!

The Cisco Writers Club 45th Annual Summer Contest opened June 1, 2021, and ends at midnight on July 31. To encourage more – and more excellent – writing, the Club awards prizes totaling approximately $1,500 each year. Thanks to generous underwriters these will be awarded at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, at the Myrtle Wilks Community Center in Cisco.

Details and the easy "Submit" button are at ciscowritersclub. org/contest.

With six categories from poetry to books, there are possibilities for everyone. Beginners will relish the opportunity to have their work evaluated. More senior writers may want to explore a new genre. Trying a new form of writing can stretch talents in ways that strengthen our favorite formats.

Significant prizes are up for grabs. Entering numerous pieces, and across multiple categories, creates the opportunity for even more impressive wins. Topping off CWC's special cash incentives is the David Autry Sweepstakes Award, based on a point system that rewards numerous entries.

Young writers are welcome, too. The Adventures in Writing category is just for those fifteen and under. This does not have a cash prize, to avoid UIL complications, but does involve a pizza party for all who enter and can join us in Cisco. The top three winners earn a private plane flight around the Cisco area.

Our Adventures in Writing category has no entry fee. All others pay a low, low $5 per entry.

Judges' comments can help assess and improve one's skills, but note that judges are volunteers who are asked but not required to critique entries.

The clock is ticking. The contest closes July 31 at midnight, so let the writing begin!
