Jimmy Baker, a spring graduate of San Saba High School, began work Monday with the State Education Department in Austin. He will work this summer and plans to attend the University in the fall. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Baker of San Saba.
Miss Marilynn Timberlake of San Saba was a candidate for a B. S. degree in Home Economics Education at the graduation exercises at Texas Woman's University in Denton June 5 at the TWU main auditorium.
Richard Barker, San Saba's Class AA schoolboy state tennis champion in singles, was crowned champion of the schoolboy division Sunday in the Brown County Tennis Tournament held last week, and shared the title with Larry Don Bourke in doubles. It was stated that the Armadillo standout easily whipped John Durkee, 6-0, 6-3 for the singles title. The finals were played Sunday at Coggin Park.
Two local cowboys placed in the Llano Rodeo this last week end. Bill Grimes roped a calf in 10.7 Earl Wharton and Bill Grimes won third place in head and heeling roping team.
Miss Jerilynn Campbell, a May graduate of San Saba High School, is attending Summer School at Howard Payne College.
A total of 15 Latin - American children, who will be beginners in the fall term of school, enrolled last week for the Non-English Speaking Program, Supt. J. L. Akridge announced this week. In the group are 13 children of San Saba and one each from Richland Springs and Cherokee. Mrs. Burns Lane is the teacher for the class. She recently attended a workshop in San Antonio especially designed for teachers in this type of program.

Two high school students, Kolton Haverland and Heather Wilcox, were honored May 25th for their superior achievement in winning a logo design contest for the San Saba Museum. The Museum recently decided to update its logo and figured one of the best ways to do that was by involving some youthful talent.
Hank Perry had a birthday party at the park in San Saba last Friday night. After eating hot dogs and birthday cake, the kids has a great time swimming.
Jody Ray and Julie Henegar had a beautiful wedding on the Los Valles Ranch last weekend.
The Reading Express with Ms. Shelia and Teddy onboard made a stop in Egypt this past week. Participants heard the story of Tutankhamen's Gift, and then learned about Hieroglyphics writing and made a bookmark with their name using the Hieroglyphic writing. They also divided into groups to make mummies and had a mummy race. This week the Reading Express is part of the Summer Reading Program which is sponsored by the Friends of Rylander Library and LCRA.
6-Pak's Annual Fishing Contest was another success. Out of twelve fishing teams, ten teams brought fish in. Of those teams, around 500 pounds of fish was donated to the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department. The team of Johnny Watson and sons won the Yellow Cat category and the team of Paul Gibson and Todd Gibson won the Channel Cat category.
Congratulations to the following Armadillo Baseball Team members for receiving all-district honors. 1st Team - Cody Herd - Pitcher; 1st Team - Tucker Cromer - Outfielder; 1st Team - Tanner Weyerts - Designated Hitter; 1st Team - Ryan Pannell - Infielder; 2nd Team - Zack Davis - Infielder; 2nd Team - Ryan Parks - Infielder; 2nd Team - Miguel Flores - Outfielder; Honorable Mention - Luke Cox - Catcher; Honorable Mention - Clayton Perry - Pitcher.
On Friday San Saba ISD staff met for lunch and to recognize staff retiring from education and/ or leaving the ISD for other positions. Receiving plaques for their service were Celia Bell, Bruce Sowers and Bill Harlow. Renice Burnham will be retiring as well. Total, these educators dedicated 125 years to school children of Texas and dedicated 65 years of their educational career to SSISD students.
