Happy Herman's Hideaway

Summertime and June Tunes

Hello, my San Saba friends, and how have you been? Happy Memorial Day and what has always been the first bloom of summer fun. Mom loves summer, and dad looks at it as a pox upon the world. He is already complaining about the humidity and saying he feels a bit like broccoli steaming in a pot. I am oh so tempted to tell him he smells like it, too, but I curb my enthusiasm about my own hilarious tendencies and tell him I am so sorry he feels that way.

I have been so glad to have mom home from the hospital, but I wish I could say she has been her happy, wonderful self. But I don’t lie. Nope, mom is still very ill, and since heart failure and kidney disease cause sodium loss, it seems we are in for a long bumpy ride with this thing. One good thing though, mom is now addicted to V-8, so she does drink veggies and get some sodium every single day. Another great thing is she has is a wonderful full-time nurse that happens to eat dog food and well, any other food his parentals happen to share with him, and his name is Herman! Yep, I dote on mom and take such great care of her!

Mom’s brother, David, and his wife, Suzanne, are coming from California for a visit, and I cannot wait to meet them! They will be here June 21st, and David has stated more than once he would like to take me back to California with him because we look like twins because of the color of our beards. Yep, he has white and red coloring, and so do I! David was the only other redhead besides mom, but because he is younger than mom he still has some red left. Now I know I will love him to pieces, but as far as going home with him, nope, got to stay right where I am because I can’t go breaking my parentals’ hearts or my own. Lots of people have wanted to take me home with them, but hey, I know which side of life my heart is spread with love and devotion…yep, I sure do! Furthermore, if I wrote my column from California you guys would not even know what I was talking about! I bet the squirrels speak a totally different language there and all surf or something!

I love you, my San Saba sweethearts. I want to wish all the recent graduates the best of luck and brightest futures. I hope each of you have the best beginning to summer, and if you go on vacation, be safe and have fun. Thank you for being!
