Central Texas College (CTC) will host a virtual new student orientation Thursday, June 3, to provide students an overview of policies, procedures, class delivery and other information relevant to their success in the summer semester. From 9 to 11 a.m., the orientation will include a discussion of EagleMail (CTC’s student email system) and an introduction to Blackboard - the school’s online learning management system and student services. Students will also receive valuable information on financial aid, academic advising and other available student and academic services. A faculty panel and a question/answer session will also be held to allow students to ask questions about classes, academic programs and more.
From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., students can participate in any of six live, interactive career cluster sessions which will enable them to learn more about available programs, requirements, degree plans, career options within their area of interest. The clusters are business and business technology, healthcare, arts and humanities, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), public service and construction trades.
The Business and Business Technology cluster encompasses accounting, business, cloud computing architecture, culinary arts and hospitality, cybersecurity, information technology, logistics and supply chain management, networks systems administration, network cloud support and cybersecurity, network systems administration, office technology, project management and real estate.
The Healthcare cluster includes the EMT/paramedic program, nursing, massage therapy, mental health services and social work, medical laboratory technology, medical office technology, phlebotomy, histology and the healthcare career programs offered through Continuing Education such as certified nurse aide, pharmacy technician, clinical medical assistant, EKG technician and veterinary assistant. Students interested in agricultural science, electronics, engineering, industrial control and robotic technology, mathematics, programming and software development and science can select the STEM cluster.
The Arts, Humanities and Media cluster includes drama, graphics and printing, modern languages, music, social science and visual arts while programs of study in the Public Service cluster include child development, criminal justice, fire service administration, homeland security and emergency management, kinesiology, paralegal, police academy and teaching.
The Construction, Manufacturing and Transportation cluster includes the industrial technology fields of automotive technology, construction trades, diesel technology, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration and welding. It also includes aviation, computer-aided drafting and design and truck driving.
Registration for the new student orientation is open online at <ww.ctcd.edu/NSO>. When registering, students can also select the career cluster session in which they are interested. The orientation is open to new students, parents and returning students interested in learning more about available services.
