Several members of the San Saba Golden Armadillo Band participated in the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest this past week.
Our clarinet choir earned a Division 3 (Good) rating for their performance of a Mozart Quartet. Their adjudicator, Dr. Carol Jessup, clarinet professor at the University of Texas Arlington, said, "A good beginning, continue working to develop focused tones through ensemble. Continue your good work!"
The saxophone trio earned a Division 2 (Excellent) rating for their performance of Scherzo for Three Saxophones. Their adjudicator, Dr. Al Corley of Texas State University, praised the ensemble on their professional appearance and introduction, and also commended them on performing such a difficult piece. Also receiving a Division 2 (Excellent) rating was the brass quintet. They performed Largo and Finale from the New World Symphony. Their adjudicator, Mr. Kerry Taylor of Westlake HS said, "good sounds from every player. Thank you for sustaining during long notes. Good energy in the Finale...Thank you for playing today. I enjoyed it and wish you good luck in future music performances."
The trombone trio earned a Division 1 (Superior) rating for their performance of "Lift Thine Eyes." Their adjudicator, Dr. Brett Richardson, Director of Bands University of the Incarnate Word, very much enjoyed hearing and watching the trio perform. Some of his comments were "What a nice looking group! GREAT TEST NOTE at STARTphrasing and musical decisions were off to a good start-Smart tempo choice; some nice releases throughout-Overall, nice job! Best of Luck! Again, please accept my sincere congratulations on a SUPERIOR performance today!" Each member of the Trombone Trio will receive a gold medal for their state performance.
