Trish Fullerton and Terri Dickey, San Saba Garden Club’s awards team, attended the Texas Garden Club’s 93rd Spring Convention Awards Dinner in San Antonio last Wednesday April 8, 2021. As a first-time attendee of a TGC convention, Terri was presented with a rose by Gay Austin, President of National Garden Clubs, and their pictures were taken with the TGC President, Peggy Moreland of El Paso, after being presented with the awards.
San Saba Garden Club received 3 first place awards! They are:
• The Club’s 2020-2021 Yearbook for Bronze Clubs with less than 30 members won 1st in State. The yearbook was created by Mona McMahan and Rhonda Killion, co-presidents, Marjean Henderson and Trish Fullerton listing all programs for the year, contact for San Saba GC officers and members, NGC and TGC officers, club history, calendars and other club information.
• for TGC’s Backyard Wildlife Habitat (submitted by individual member Terri Dickey) took 1st place in State. Terri has 132 acres of backyard where she and her husband Lonnie have worked to support their local wildlife using a solar panel to run a water pump to move water into a 100-gallon trough. They also keep a deer feeder and brush piles for wildlife shelters, as well as growing plants around their home to attract birds and butterflies. Kudos to Terri and Lonnie!
• for NGC’s Edible Gardening by an Individual (submitted by Trish Fullerton) also won 1st in State for her use of her 2 acres to grow edibles like wine grapes, blackberries, asparagus, peaches, apples, apricots, plums and pears, purslane and pecans. As this is a National Garden Club award, it will be judged against all 50 states in this very special category. We learn the results at the May 2021 NGC Spring Convention. Keep your fingers crossed!
