It was announced over the weekend that four San Saba High School girls’ varsity cross country runners were voted to the 2A Girls’ Cross Country All-State team, according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Lady Dillos’ senior Brighton Adams, senior Courtnee Cash, freshman Jenna Lambert, and junior Nojemi Martinez each were honored for their outstanding efforts throughout the 2020 season that had San Saba place highly at both their district and regional meets to qualify again for the state meet.
At the District 29-2A cross country meet on October 19 held at San Saba River Golf Course, the Lady Dillos came up just short as Mason High School’s 50 points edged the hosts’ 54 points to win the dis trict meet as both schools qualified for the upcoming regional meet with state championship aspirations.
Individually for the girls, it was the Lady Dillos’ senior duo of Adams and Cash finishing at the top as Adams’ mark of 12:26.9 was good enough for first place by over 6.5 seconds, while Cash crossed the line in third place with a great time of 12:35.3.
Martinez put together a very strong performance of her own with a 10th-place finish at 13:23.5 in the girls’ 3,200-meter run.
With 65 points as a team at the Region IV Cross Country Championships on November 10, held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the Lady Dillos placed third behind Shiner High School’s 53 points and District 29 rival Mason High School’s 60 points amongst a field of 14 Class 2A schools and qualified for the upcoming state meet.
Leading the way in the girls’ two-mile run for the Lady Dillos were the two standout seniors with top-10 finishes as Adams placed second with a stellar time of 12:55.14 and Cash in seventh with a mark of 13:17.21.
Also earning a medal for San Saba was Martinez with a great 12th-place finish at 13:27.21, while Lambert placed 42nd with a time of 14:29.71.
The Lady Dillos would then place sixth with 143 points in the team portion of the girls’ Class 2A 3,200-meter run on November 24 at the 2020 UIL Cross Country State Championships held at Old Settlers
Park in Round Rock.
Adams was absolutely superb that morning and recorded a top-10 finish at the state meet in sixth place with a stellar time of 12:49.30.
In and around the top half of a field consisting of 124 runners from 2A schools across Texas, three Lady Dillos’ runners put together solid efforts and finished in the top 70: Martinez in 47th place at 13:41.99, Cash with a mark of 13:54.87 in 63rd place, and Lambert at 14:03.62 in 68th place.
