Message from Dr. Craig Whiting:
We have several cases of COVID among the residents of the nursing home, and a few of the staff also have tested positive. The nursing home is able to perform their own rapid testing which has helped to quickly recognize who has the infection and care for them appropriately.
One step that the nursing home has taken is to set aside a hallway to allow separation of those with COVID from the other residents in the home. Staff who work that hallway wear full protective equipment to protect themselves and to keep from spreading COVID.
In the community, we continue to have cases occurring, and as of today we have more active cases in our county than we have had so far in this pandemic. Across the State of Texas, the downward trend in cases of COVID that we have seen seems to have stalled, and there has been a slight up-turn in cases. Hopefully, this does not indicate a continued increase in cases. San Saba County mirrors the state; we are approaching the same rate of COVID infections that the rest of the state has been experiencing. This is likely due to relaxed rules across the state and increased travel by our county residents.
The school districts and the nursing home have taken important steps in trying to prevent infection and spread of this virus, and I appreciate their efforts. As citizens of the county, we can do our part, and one of the best things we can do is to wear a mask when in public within 6 feet of other individuals.
