Are You Faithful?

There are many to which things we can be faithful. In a marriage we can be faithful to our spouse. An employee can be faithful to their employer. In most areas of life we have this thought. But the most important area is being faithful to our God. In Revelation 2:10b, Jesus said, “...Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” He was telling the church in Smyrna that they were going to undergo persecution. Then He adds the words above…“faithful until death.” What an awesome thought!

The idea of faithfulness in our lives is so important. We are folks who sometimes get excited about certain things, and we may begin well to do what we set out to accomplish. But somewhere along the line we lose interest and do not continue with this faithful attitude. A man sees a woman who is younger and has some physical beauty. He begins an illicit relationship with her, and no longer is he faithful to his wife. The employee decides they are not truly interested in working every day for the employer, so she calls in sick or makes excuses as to why she cannot work. Before you know it, both of these relationships are tragically ended. And in the process, there are many people who suffer because of it.

Some people will decide that they are no longer interestedin God or following His will. Therefore, they begin to miss church services and fall away from following God. They are not reading their Bibles or praying to the Creator of the universe and asking for direction for their lives, but doing what they choose to do.

The book of Judges describes God’s people as they fell away from God and they began to worship idols. He allowed the other nations to come in and oppress them. When things got bad enough, they cried out to God, and he gave them a judge. As long as that judge lived, the people were okay. But when the judge died they went back to their old ways. We are told that at this time there was no king in Israel so “...every man did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 17:6)

There may be many people today that are deciding that the word of God is not important. The Bible is our guide in life and comes from the Great Creator. Therefore we should make sure we are following it. And we need to be faithful until death and never give up on God—no matter how tough things may get.

Are you faithful to God today? Are you seeking Him with all your heart. If not, the results could be disastrous. He has prepared a place for the righteous and for those who are not seeking Him. Which is it for you? Where will you spend your eternity?
