Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Creech of Placid have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, essie Louise, to Gary Dale Harlow. The bridegroom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Harlow of Richland Springs.
The Corral Drive-In will instaldl treadles in the exit drive this week, according to the new manager, Leo Travis. There will be signs on both sides of the treadles, warnng of the danger of driving into the exit from the wrong side. There is no danger upon departing from the theatre, however, after crossing the treadles, do not reverse. There is danger in entering the exit from the wrong side. The readles will always damage the tires.
Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Powell spent Saturday in Austin where they were guests of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gore and children, Jenny and Jeff.
There were 5 babies born at the San Saba Memorial Hospital from May 5 to May 12. Mr. and Mrs. Seperino Perez are the parents of Stephen, seven pounds, two ounces, born May 4. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Vaughn are the parents of Darrell Gene, seven pounds and 14 ounces, born May 6. Mr. and Mrs. Joel Serna are the parents of Alberto, six pounds, nine ounces, born May 6. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dale Locklear are the parents of Melissa Ann, seven pounds, eight ounces, born May 6. Mr. and Mrs. Homero Jimenez are the parents of Homero Jr., six pounds and 8 ounces, born May 11.
Graduation day is near at hand, a happy time for every Senior. This newspaper with the cooperation of local businessmen and individuals, will dedicate a special issue to Seniors of San Saba, Richland Springs and Cherokee. Watch for the special edition and take notice of the sincere messages extended to graduates from the friendly people of San Saba county. To the county's 89 candidates for graduation, we extend praise and best wishes. Your record of accomplishments in scholastics, athletics, band, FFA, FHA, and in every activity, shows you are able and eager to excel. Today, more than ever before, our country needs its youth. We need their inquiring mind, their unquenchable desire to excel. There is a better tomorrow for our nation only if there is vitality in our youth today.

Polly Clayton of Bend, a community representative on the Head Start Policy Council, has donated seven bluebonnet oil paintings to each of the Head Start centers represented by the Council including Coryell, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, Milam, Mills, and San Saba counties. The centers will collect donations for a drawing on the paintings as a money-making project - the money to be used for services for the children enrolled in the centers. Ms. Clayton has been commissioned by Frontier Galleries of Odessa to paint some Southwestern scenes.
Ginger Woodruff carried the purple and gold of San Saba all the way to third place in the regional UIL tennis playoffs. The contest was held in Abilene.
For the first time in University Interscholastic League competition all high schools with six-man football teams had their own State Track Meet. It was held Saturday, May 6 at Comanche High School. There were 54 schools represented including Cherokee and Richland Springs. In the girls division, Jodi Altizer of Cherokee was first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.53 and the best finishes for the boys was the Cherokee 1600 meter relay team which finished fourth.
McCulloch Electronic Cooperative announced the winners of an essay-writing contest. Thirty high school students from the area submitted essays on the subject "Responsibilities of Board Members". Vieney Hernandez and Brian Reeves from San Saba qualified for an all expense paid Rural Electric Youth Tour trip to Washington, DC. The runners-up and recipients of a $25 cash award are Lori Westerfeld from San Saba and D. J. Prosise from Eden.
Mr. Bob Williams representing Nesfac, Inc. of Austin and who is working on the proposed water park for San Saba presented a 23-page preliminary draft for the city council to study and discuss. The proposal calls for the expansion of the present Mill Pond Park into a recreational facility. It would include numerous water rides, wave machine, slides along with shopping facilities, restaurant and expansion of the museum. The study gives estimated attendance and potential revenues available in a 100-mile area around San Saba. Growth estimates are also listed. The council request Williams to come back with a report on the different aspects of financing the project. The proposed water park will again be reviewed at that time.
