School districts continue to remain focused on the COVID-19 Public Health Crisis first and foremost. Guidelines have now become routines in our daily lives. Governor Abbott’s latest Executive Order requires all school districts to remain closed through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Texas schools are closing (not allowing students on campus), having students remain at home and sending instruction to students. RSISD campus closed March 23, 2020 and will stay closed through the last day of instruction on May 29, 2020. As with all school districts, Richland Springs ISD is working to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus. Our primary goal is the safety of our community, students and staff.

Staff has varied methods for homebound instruction, from internet instruction to packet pick-up. For our current packet pick-up, teachers have materials packed individually per student and placed in a box or bin with teacher name on it. Principal Rhonda Wyatt will move the bins/ boxes to the benches in front of the library on Monday morning, and parents will come pickup their child’s materials between 8-4 Monday. Librarian Valerie Barker also asks that all library books be returned and placed on the benches in front of the library. This “social distancing” will be safer for families and for district employees.

The ‘new normal’ during COVID-19 is being experienced by everyone in their own way. Parents are often juggling fulltime work, now with the added stress of full-time child care and education. Parents have little time to brush-up on fractions, spelling or history lessons. Teachers, likewise, are trying to sleep at night while asking themselves, “Have I done enough supporting my students and their parents?” Go outside, get some fresh air from time to time and soak up some sunshine. When we feel stressed and overloaded, share ideas and concerns with each other. Contact Principal Rhonda Wyatt with your concerns and questions. We are here to work with parents and students to complete this school year in a safe-as-possible manner.

Please look at the information on this webpage. According to the webpage, there are a few simple routines that will help mitigate the spread COVID-19.

There are simple steps everyone can take to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses like COVID-19:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue; then throw the tissue in the trash.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Richland Springs ISD will be graduating 15 seniors this May. Five weeks remain in the 2019-2020 school year. If you see a teacher in public, tell them how much you appreciate their efforts. We appreciate all the parents’ efforts at home to complete the at-home learning. We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. Words of encouragement are needed to make the journey with COVID-19 more bearable! Please pray for our schools and our country.

Community involvement is the key to our success!
